Hysterical and Raunchy, 22 February 2009
7/10
Author: C G from United States

My Best Friend's Girl is total brain candy, for those who enjoy cheap good 'ole fashion raunchy humor. Though there is nothing truly great about this movie (well, perhaps with the exception of Kate Hudson) it is a fun romp. Cook is extremely funny in this film as he adds his natural stand up like rhythm to the character. Alec Baldwin's performance is also excellent as the slick and sleazy father, who taught Tank how to manipulate women. His character is also way over the top.

My Best Friend's Girl is basically the antithesis of "Hitch": where Tank (Cook), is the man for hire; he takes women out on the worst date of their lives, with the intention to trick them into appreciating and reconnecting with their ex-boyfriend. Tank however meets his match when he's 'working' on Alexis (Hudson) and she is unmoved by his tactics, and he subsequently falls for her. There is excellent tension between the two main characters as well as between Cook's and Biggs' relationship, as Cook tries to hide his feelings from everyone, including himself. The film reaches it's climax in a hysterical montage of Tank utilizing his tactics at a wedding, where he goes way over the top with unacceptable and raunchy behavior.

This is not the movie for you if you hate raunchy bawdy humor, or if you are very religious and can't take a bit of humor against the church. If you can somewhat appreciate or at least tolerate it, once you make it through the first 10 minutes, it is pretty easy to continue. The climax ending is also as raunchy and over the top as the beginning, and may take some tolerance too. But the majority of the film is not completely offensive.

Highly recommended for fans of Superbad, the 40 Year Old Virgin, or the American Pie trilogy.
