Attack of The Lizard
disdressed1223 November 2008
this is a 70 minute feature from season one of The Spectacular Spiderman,A new animated series, focusing on the younger years of Spiderman/Peter Parker.in this one,he's 16 years old and in high school.i'm not sure if this is an episode of the series or a standalone feature,i can't find an accurate listing for it anywhere.it may be actually under another title but on the cover it's called :Attack of the Lizard.anyway, i did like it,regardless.it presents Peter Parker as very cheeky and smart-alecy,also fairly immature and somewhat selfish,in that he craves recognition for his heroic as Spiderman, yet he knows this isn't possible.there is lot s of action here, but***Spoiler***the Lizard does not even appear until the last 15 or so minutes.still, this is the best looking Lizard of any of the animated Spiderman series so far.by that,i mean the physicality and ferocity of the character.he is very impressive, very strong and deadly.and there is a good battle scene between him and Spidey.other well known villains also appear, but i won't give away which ones.i give this animated episode/feature a good 8/10

Very good episode! It introduces us very well to the characters we will see during the series, we meet the main character (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) who turns out to be quite a charismatic character and a good villain to make a very entertaining episode.

A more than solid beginning to Spidey's best outing.

Warning: Spoilers
*The following review contains minor references to following episodes, though no big plotlines are revealed*

Spectacular Spider-Man probably needs no introduction, in short, it's almost universally loved and it's lauded as one of the best superhero cartoons of all time.

While the pilot itself showcases the fantastic animation, tight script and clever action the show is known for, as it focuses more into the introduction of the character, it tends to retread old ground a little bit, as well as having some minor tonal shifts.

That being said, all of the main relations that drive Peter Parker are established here in a great way. Peter gets recommended to Dr. Connors' Lab to set up the plot with the Lizard, Norman Osborn's neglect to his son sets up his addiction and insecurities, etc. So the pilot itself is a great introduction, for what the show offers and has well crafted moments that portray Peter's struggles perfectly, but with some tidbits here and there and the main conflict not being that interesting, it ends up being a 7/10

pilot that does not disappoint

Here it is the first episode of this fine series, it was released one year after spider mans marriage with mj was broken and spider man 3 so it's safe to say spidey wasn't looking too good in the eyes of fans but thankfully this show redeemed him in the most spectacular way possible. Right from the get go we see spidey having a great time being himself, the incredibly catchy intro, and all of peters high school social life as well Norman Osborn dismissal of Adrian toomes causing him to become the vulture and get revenge on Osborn for this. We also get the introduction of the enforcers who later get a massive upgrade in season 2. Really this episode sets up the show wonderfully and it's just the first gem in a series filled with gems.

Spectacular start

A great start to the animated series. Many characters who will become iconic villains in the future. And in general, the animated series immediately shows that the most interesting is yet to come. But at the same time, everything looks quite holistic, each character is in its place, the plot does not feel overloaded, since at the beginning it is difficult to understand its scale. Many people criticize the art, but I liked it, the action here looks very exciting. Despite the simplicity of the drawing, the character of each character is clearly visible in it. There's nothing to criticize the first episode for, but I can't rate it higher than 8.
