Truly Awful, Avoid.
fatfil-414-4517975 July 2012
I'm not sure how this title managed to average 7 out of 10 as it's score. I can only imagine the votes were from the people involved in it. The storyline was boring and predictable, the acting atrocious, and the dialogue laughable. The characters were very two dimensional and did not interact naturally, it was all very staid. I had really been looking forward to watching this, but unfortunately it didn't even fall into the "so bad it's good" category, it was just plain bad. Not even really a horror film, it should be listed under drama. Bad drama. The main story revolves around a dysfunctional family and the consequences of the fathers abandonment. The paranormal / supernatural elements are secondary. The sub-plot, if it can be called that, involving the angst ridden medium, and his thoroughly (and unbelievably) obnoxious business partner, fizzles out into nothing, and is completely forgotten, and unresolved by the end of the movie. Give this a Miss.

Never underestimate a free movie
movieman_kev15 May 2013
Chemical Burn Entertainment has a new Roku channel, so I decided to see what they had to offer on it. This was the second film that I watched. The channel being free is the only reason that I gave it a go as the first film "The Experiment: Who's watching you?" was one of the biggest piles of excrement that I have ever had the sheer misfortune of watching.

Perhaps that movie being so mind-numbingly awful colored this one more positively. This one has a discernible plot that goes somewhere at least. Also for a low-budget film, the acting is rather good. It was a nifty little ghost mystery tale. Nothing that'll set the world on fire, but enjoyable.

Good Trial Run
jabrbi24 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The premise and plot of this film is actually quite good, but the execution is sadly poor.

The two main parts, the father and the medium, needed stronger actors to play them, actors who could bring depth and subtlety onto the screen. Instead the father is boringly two dimensional, with outbursts of anger/rage/violence that just doesn't hang together as a coherent performance. The medium, on the other hand, comes over as too placid, too much of a walkover and when the final scenes occur you have to wonder where the character found the strength to finish the story the way it does.

The three ghosts were also weakly portrayed. There isn't enough character development and good acting to make the son appear as different as he's supposed to be. The mother could be substituted by a cardboard cut out without anyone noticing and the daughter, whilst the performance is OK, is portrayed in too many different ways for the viewer to know who/what she really is.

However, the set up, the overall plot, the ideas behind the film, were quite refreshing and, if it were to be remade with a top flight screen writer and actors, this could easily be a Top 100 film of all time.

This is a good first effort at making this film, but wait for the remake with better known actors.

Beware 10's from film workers
artpf12 November 2013
Robert, a Medium frustrated by scraping a living with simple party tricks, is hired by George to find the truth behind the brutal deaths of his wife & children.

George is convinced their house is possessed by an ancient evil, but as the dead return to tell of ghostly seduction, demonic rage, and brutal murder, Robert discovers the truth - a horror far more real than any ghost story...

This is a boring, slow, talkie, non-scary piece of junk.

And once again, even tho this movie gets a really poor overall review, there are the 10 point reviews from people involved in the film, driving up the points. This would get a zero if IMDb didn't allow friends of the film to review it!

Indie films rock

Warning: Spoilers
Yea, At first you start the watch the film it was a more typical haunted house film..and Tied in Blood is NO DOUBT A low budget film...If you stick with it past the middle it really picks up storyline and there is a genius moment with the storyline that makes it worth the watch.

Hollywood wouldn't dare work on this kind of story line.. and that is exactly why I like it..

Small **SPOILER** Instead of this being a typical Ghost haunting...you get to see the storyline though the ghost itself..and its a really neat perspective.. This is not a mindless gore fest film, but the story itself pushes boundaries...its a really unique ghost story and if you like a good story over all the flash and bang you just might like this film..

and NO I am NOT ONE OF THE FILMMAKERS ..

Not as bad as other reviews state
ulricjoh11 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was filmed on a budget, which accounts for the lack of gloss and elaborate settings. The actors seem to attempt to do the best they can with a so-so script.

The story involves a medium who goes to a haunted house, to help a husband try to clear the hose of the spirits that are 'living' there.

The story is told from three different perspectives, which we later find out are the three members of a family who were killed in the house.

The ending I found a bit lacklustre and it could have been better done. The three members forgive each other for what happened in their deaths (which I believe we're interwoven) and the husband, who originally called in the medium has to live with the guilt of his now deceased family (the movie ended at that point).

Just to reiterate, it is not a movie you will remember for a long time (like 'the exorcist') but it could have been a lot worse.

Full marks for making the movie on the £150,000 budget. But the script could have been a little tighter.

Awful ridiculous Movie
Hooman05 July 2012
This movie is awful , I have never seen horror movie so ridiculous and cheesy. it is a disaster of playing and disaster of an story. Acting is so artificial that makes you laugh. I regret wasting my precious time watching this garbage.

The acting is artificial, it is like it has been filmed by a handy cam with the least support of any film making experience.

the story is so elementary and ridiculous that a three year old will be bored watching it, I think a waist of negative and time was the purpose of this movie.

The acting is so primitive that you wonder if these people ever been an actor in the first place, anybody with a primitive video camera can build movies far better than this. I don't wanna be sinister but there is nothing artistic about this credulous movie.

"Could've been better!!!"
CuteSagittarius6 July 2012
Being a huge fan of the horror genre, I was excited when I found this new flick. The title did sound quite promising, but as most promises go unkept, it was a disappointment.

The story is somewhat interesting, I believe it could've been a success with stronger acting, better effects and a little creativity. I try to watch all kind of horror films and usually find some enjoyable factors even in the weaker productions, but I really had to force myself to watch this one to the end.

A couple of actors are pretty good, but effects are primitive, scare factor is missing and it cries for some clever twists and tricks.

Do watch it if you are blessed with the virtue of patience, you'll need it. It is not bad, just weak. You might find it better than I did. As I said before, it could've been a great movie with a stronger budget, better acting and cleverer plot. Do give it a try when you are in the mood for trying out the latest flavor in the market without worrying about how it really tastes.

I am giving it a generous 5/10 and that's due to the story and some good acting.

fantastic little ghost mystery
jjohnjc26 July 2012
Tied in Blood is a fantastic little ghost mystery. A decent script, strong direction, performances and an imaginative use of sound & music elevate it well above its somewhat modest budget.

Personally I think Tied in Blood is more of a slow burn psychological thriller than a horror film. Whilst there's a bit of gore and nudity thrown in there, these are secondary and used only to serve the story.

The story revolves around a medium called Robert who is hired by George; a desperate man who believes an evil spirit is responsible for the deaths of his family. Over the course of a turbulent evening Robert summons the spirits of George's family one by one and each gives a different account of what happened there. Robert must then piece together the clues to work out what has happened.

This kind of structure makes the film seem different and interesting as it's not something you see countless times in films, although it was used in an old Japanese film called Rashomon (which could well have been an influence for Tied in Blood).

I was surprised to see that this film got really poor reviews from a couple of users but don't let that put you off. It has faired pretty well with the critics, and the user reviews on Amazon (which is where I got my copy) are all really positive.

Tied in Blood may not be everyone's cup of tea but if you're a fan of indie cinema and you want something different and interesting then I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

i enjoyed it
amyduskwalker28 July 2012
This is a clever, well made little movie. I cannot understand the negative comments by other reviewers. The criticisms of the acting and story are, for the most part, completely unwarranted in my opinion.

I was impressed by the fact that this is a character driven story, dealing with real people who have recognisable human personalities and lifestyles. It certainly made a refreshing change from zombies, vampires and cheapskate "found footage" atrocities.

Tied In Blood has a supernatural element of course, which is nicely set up and introduced in a gradual way. This is essential in keeping the story plausible.

Most of the cast are very good. Paul McEwan and Laura Donohue in particularly give standout performances. The only weak link in the cast is Alan Brent who looks as though he is reading his lines off a card. Fortunately he only makes one small appearance and something about him perfectly suggests the kind of sleazebag who would do or say anything to separate honest people from their money. This attitude makes his casting as McEwan's boss quite understandable.

The film is an entertaining story with a twist that I didn't see coming. I really enjoyed it and found it a welcome change from other b-movies.

Needed A Bigger Budget
ladymidath22 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, I admit I am torn on this one. The story was really good even though I could see the ending coming, The acting wasn't great but I have seen worse. Paul McEwan was the best out of the lot as Robert, a medium that also seems to be bullied a lot, especially by his partner in the seance business, Peter Kixley, played by Alan Brent.

George-Kenneth G Hodgson is a father who returns home to find his family dead and turns to Robert for help ridding the house of the ghost responsible.

The story uses the perspective of the three family members. Stuart-Chris Leach, Tamsin-Laura O'Donoughue and Gillian- Denise Cooke.

The story itself is compelling enough to keep you watching but it was filmed on a very low budget and unfortunately it show, especially with the ghost, Amie Morris.

Tied In Blood isn't a bad movie per se, it just needed a higher budget, better effects for the ghost and a couple of stronger actors.

TROUBLED SPIRIT WE ASK THAT YOU COMMUNE WITH US
nogodnomasters14 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In an isolated farm house, George (Kenneth G. Hodgson) believes his family has been killed by a ghost. He hires Robert Brandon (Paul McEwan) a man who believes he is a medium, but works for a company that uses "smoke and mirrors." The movie is sharp and crisp until Robert manages to conjure up the ghosts of Robert's family. At this point you ask, "What happened to the ghost makeup?" Each ghost tells a different story of the events of the murders/killings.

Denise Cooke plays the wife Gillian. The son, who is not quite all there is played by Chris Leach. The lovely Laura O'Donoughue (please don't get a nose job) is the sister who cares for her brother a little too much.

The ghost movie is deeper than most ghost stories, but it is far from a horror film. The special effects were minor when they were used. I enjoyed the film, but the ending was too anti-climatic.

F-bomb, sex, incest theme, nudity (Amie Morris)
