In my opinion, this is the worst episode of the first season. Putting the blatant racism aside, the episode in itself feels like it needed more time in the oven, or the writers didn't know what to do and had to end the episode quickly. It's entertaining, but not as much as other, far better episodes down the road.
I don't generally like to point out animations errors in Winx, especially season 1, considering it's made in Italy with less of a budget than other shows at the time. Still, there are some distracting animation errors here, more so than other episodes. It feels like it's an early episode of the season instead of episode 12.
The plot starts out fine with Bloom discussing her mysterious dreams with Sky. It's a nice way to see them bond. From there, the titular Miss Magix contest feels too basic and not magical at all, contrary to what you would expect from this show. There's even a scene where Bloom sees the Trix and we think she'll do something about them, but then Stella wins due to an unfair trick done to Lucy, the girls just forget about the Trix and celebrate, completely out of character for them, especially for Bloom.
In short, it's not good. It even feels mean-spirited - humilliating Lucy for being 'ugly' and the Winx doing nothing about it, and portraying afros as such a bad trait that the girl doesn't even participate in the contest.
