Warning don't read unless seen episode.

This is another of my favorite episodes and arcs of the show, it also was the beginning of the second season and it's a fitting opening.

What I like about this arc is that it's focused on characters that don't have much attention on the series, which is a good thing as it takes a break from the main character and core cast showing how big the world Jem inhabits truly is. It's true the story isn't really anything new and it's predictable as to where it's going with itself as you can easily see a mile away who the new drummer's going to be; but it's really the execution that makes it stand out.

We have one main plotline with two subplot lines all going on and they all work because like any working gears they mesh.

With Shanna she has a opportunity to be a fashion designer for a Elisabeth Taylor like Celeb but she is slightly reluctant to the task, despite the fact it could be one big step toward her dream coming true. Shanna is a person that's nice and loyal, but that's also her own Achilles heel as she may 'be too much of both for her own good, which makes her a little less assertive into attaining what she desires out of life but also inhibits her from knowing and seizing what's for her own good. This of course get Jem and the Holograms to employ negative reinforcement for Shanna's own good to do what she has to do.

Reya is a good new edition, I like how the episode takes the time to let us get to know her as a character and why she truly belongs in Jem's world and circle, unlike most shows and movies these days that just throw in a bunch of new characters almost out of the blue, too busy building a roster but forgetting build an actual character while telling an actual story.

Her character is the typical underdog, she is clearly talented but on the shy side and doesn't believe in herself enough despite her talent, which is why she has a hard time asserting herself into doing what she wants to do to be where she is. It's understandable it can be a scary thing but to me what's scarier is losing the opportunity and we know that's something Reya doesn't want.

Even like the story with Aja and Craig, rarely do we really get any story with Aja as most of the time she sort of almost a background techie. Like that we see a guy have the hots for one of the other Holograms and not Jem, which is cool as Aja is the one hologram, I have the hots for Aja as well she was another character I crushed on as a kid.

Both are a good fit from both having the same blue hair color but you just really see much like the beating of the drums how sparks are just beating out, flying and richeting each other. Really like that song, which is a reuse of one of "Jem's" songs "I got my eye on you", but it fits the scene so well and perfectly reflects what both Aja and Craig feel for each other as we see Craig is putting on the beats, Aja is putting on the moves.

But of course, Eric Raymond and the Misfits rear their ugly heads, as we see them use the Talent search as another opportunity to destroy Jem and her company. Reya inadvertently discovers Jem's identity and of course Eric then gives Reya a devil's deal which can mean big things for her but at the expense of ruin for her friends. Will Reya shake hands with the devil named Eric, is Shanna's new career everything she hoped for, who is Craig and will both he and Aja hook up; we'll just have to wait and see.

Rating: 4 stars.
