A really nice little show.
puddiphutt6 March 2008
Little Princess is a lovely wee show that kids will enjoy, probably as much as my two do. Princess seems to be your average 4-5 year old with the typical self-absorption you find in that age group. Her parents, the lovely down-to-earth king and queen (who wears her crown over a head scarf), are not afraid to say 'no' to their daughter and usually find a way to turn her odd demands into a learning experience. The show teaches without lecturing and is entertaining. It's also easy for a parent to listen to without sending them completely barmy like many other children's programmes. Julian Clary is a wonderful narrator and Jane Horrocks makes a fantastic Princess (I've found the broad accent does require some explaining to my littlies who are Aussies and not used to it).

On the whole, Little Princess seems to be a nice return to the near-innocence (and I stress 'near') of kiddies' shows from 20-odd years ago.

Utter garbage
gbozoki13 January 2016
This show is entirely inappropriate for little children.

The main character 'Little Pricess' is a spoiled, screaming, obnoxious, miserable 3- or 4-year old brat that doesn't care about anything or anyone except herself and is mean to all people around her.

She has a weak King and Queen for parents and some servants but all these people are depicted as slaves who have no opinions about anything and solely exist to cater to the little girl.

The purpose of a kids' cartoon would be to teach the kids about real life and to have stories with morals and to teach about desirable behavior and how to recognize and deal with undesirable behaviors. This show does none of that - actually it actively encourages anti-social, mean behavior and the adult characters support this with their own behavior and speech.

The voice acting is atrocious: the voice of the little princess is worse that nails on a chalkboard and the rest of the voices are not too much better, either.

Watching the same kid movie over and over again can be mentally tiring for parents but this show stands out in how bad it is. Avoid this at all costs and make sure you prevent your kids from watching this trailer trash.

Little Princess is a favourite
eabram9 May 2007
Little Princess is shown on Ch5's Milkshake in the mornings and keeps the little ones occupied at that busy time in the morning. There is now a DVD out which, as 'The Guardian' puts it "is a godsend to parents" and it is! The Tony Ross books are great but this series has built on the strong legacy and modernised this traditional cartoon. Jane Horrocks is the voice of Little Princess and is approachable, lovable and tempestuous. She plays her as a typical 4 year old who throws tantrums. The difference is that the strong unit of friends and family surrounding Little Princess teach her that tantrums aren't the answer and to look for alternative solutions. Many parents have succeeded in potty training by using Little Princess as well as getting them to eat food that they 'don't like'. Julian Clary as the narrator is an inspired choice, as his child like view of the world, indicated by his voice, makes him the ideal person for Little Princess to bounce ideas from. I, amongst many, hope that another series is commissioned.

My daughter loves it!
laura-kidd13 July 2007
My daughter and I watch this together and we both enjoy it. It is the French dubbed version which, I admit contains pleasant voices (I am not sure if I would enjoy the English version with Julian Clary).

The stories are all based on the type of ideas that enter a little persons head and even I find it interesting to see how the different personage resolve the ups and downs of the stubborn little princess.

The graphics are basic but pleasing to the eye and I like the fact that it is not too modern. It contains interesting characters who all have different habits and relationships with the little princess.

I would fully recommend this to anyone that has a little girl who like the idea of being a princess (and the Mum's should enjoy it too!).

Horrible Show
AntiBadCartoons4 July 2021
I think "Grobir Reviewer" on YouTube said it all about this cartoon.

It can be seen that the main character is ugly and, what's more, annoying.

The course of events in this show is nothing interesting at all.

You can also guess by the names of the episodes that sound in a similar way what the main character "does not like", "what she wants" or what "parents and servants have to give her back". The main character is also disgusting saying that she likes the smell and taste of dummy and asks the narrator if she wants to try ??? Nothing cool there, no waste your time on it.

Better than the books
domenica-derosa7 October 2007
I was doubtful about this as my children loved the books but I actually think the TV series is even better. The scripts are excellent and the voices brilliant. It can't be easy to adapt these slight (but rich)stories for TV yet it has been done brilliantly without any obvious padding. All the humour is still there with new delights added. The characters were particularly well drawn. I was worried that the Princess would seem simply spoilt but the magic of her lovable egotism is retained. The voices are perfect. I watched with a sigh of relief. It is a rare show that parents and children can both watch with genuine enjoyment. This is such a show.

Past it's Time!
ian-12117 May 2007
This series is based of the "Little Princess" books by Tony Ross which was first published in 1986. I haven't really read any of the books since they were aimed at little children. But twenty years later, they finally decided to give the Little Princess her own T.V series but there's only one problem: it's WAY past it's time! This series is about 15 years overdue. I don't know why it was delayed but I feel that loads or people nowadays wouldn't remember of even heard of the Little Princess. It's just too late to capture a new premise! As for the show, it sucks! It contains the annoying and immature presenter Julian Clary bringing out a creeping narrator that chats to the princess. The characters have no personally and are very undeveloped. The Little Princess herself is annoying with all her rants and demands. She's a spoiled, little brat and I don't like it. Bad influence on children. The stories don't even make sense and the settings are so unrealistic. Altogether, if the series was released in around 1991-92 with the books most promoted then it would have been more understandable and rightly timed but still probably would have sucked the same. Don't bother with this show is watch I say! 2/10

Good show
Bonnie621896 December 2019
I fall asleep to this every night, I know this might seem odd but I choose this show to fall asleep to out of every other show. As you can see my grammar is exquisite so you should assume I am over 11. (Which I am, I am 15) Talking about the actual show...it's trash. So the main character (The Little Princess) is an annoying little brat! I now this is non-fiction but this is an extremely bad influence to younger children! There is no moral to the stories that are being told. All the plots are the same, The Little Princess wants or doesn't want something and in the end, they're all happy and the princess gets what she wants. There are also some pretty dumb characters, The General for example, thinks this wooden horse toy is real and makes horse sounds every time he runs. And The Queen is also a character, who is an obese woman who barely takes care of her child. She makes her child think that she is more valued than her daughter, The Princess. And the maid is just a bossy enslaved woman who is basically born to take care of The Princess. And The Prime Minister is also a character, who says kissing babies is part of his job...that's disgusting! And the gardener who has a strange addiction of green squash. So that's my review for this show, I know it was a little harsh but it had to be called out for. Thank you for reading this long review!

My 1 year old loves this
paulmcclements24 March 2017
Little princess Is brilliant it's the only programme my little boy watches and he goes nuts for the theme tune. The actors who do the voices are what make it watchable for me and my wife, in particular Julian Clary Is hilarious. It's just a shame they haven't made more series as I seem to watch the same ones over and over again, a bit like faulty towers. I've seen some really negative reviews about the little princess but I think they must have a screw loose. I can't recommend this highly enough.

Much loved Childrens Classic with fantastic cast
sairyfairy-9556823 October 2019
Brilliant animation. Gobsmacked by some of these reviews. If you are familiar with young children and can relate to their view of the world you will find this hilarious and recognise all of the challenging scenarios and reactions of the young princess, who can be quite a handful but is ultimately adorable! Brilliantly and hilariously voiced by our amazing Jane Horrocks. I could not imagine any other dubbed version coming close to the performances of this talented british line up.My ChIldren have all loved it over the years and my 5 year old has just discovered it and laughs out loud throughout. Julian Clary is a wonderful narrator and it's a joy for young and old. Of course the characters are exaggerated and larger than life, it's a cartoon!!!?

Honest, lovely and funny!
polaris_fgh20 January 2022
Everything is very lovely. Sounds, characters, stories, everything.

My five-year-old niece loves this series and I sometimes watch it with her. The little princess has childish honesty and learns her moral lessons at the end of each episode, no matter what. The message of the story is perfectly understandable to a five-year-old, and eventually a child can learn a lot from it.
