Larry Hagman: J.R. Ewing

Quotes

  • J.R. Ewing : You say you're a Ewing?

    Jamie Ewing : I did.

J.R. Ewing : Well, I didn't know Jason had any kids.

Jamie Ewing : Well, he did. Me and my brother.

J.R. Ewing : Oh, your brother, huh? Well, when can we expect him to show up?

Jamie Ewing : I wish I knew. I haven't seen him in almost five years.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Well, what are you doing here after all this time?

Jamie Ewing : Well, after Daddy died, there was no point in staying up in Alaska. So I came here. You're about the only family I've got.

J.R. Ewing : Well, he's been dead a month. What took you so long?

    [horse neighs in background]

    Jamie Ewing : Well...

[takes off that dirty hat and lets her long golden hair tumble down]

Jamie Ewing : after I paid for Daddy's funeral there wasn't much money left. I took a bus part of the way. I... I hitchhiked the rest. And then I ran out of money in Laramie, so I stayed there and washed dishes till I saved up some more.

Bobby Ewing : You mean Jason didn't have any money?

Jamie Ewing : Just what he earned in the oil fields. He wasn't much good at saving that either. Daddy had it pretty rough the last couple of years. No one wanted to hire somebody as old as he is... to work his fields.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Well, if things were so bad for him, why didn't he come to us for some help?

Jamie Ewing : Daddy might not have had much else, but he sure had a whole lot of pride. Never would ask anybody for help. Especially the Ewings. If it hadn't been for the money I saved, Daddy would never even have had a decent funeral.

J.R. Ewing : Well, that's a very touching story. But do you have any way of proving you are who you say you are?

    Sue Ellen Ewing : J.R...!

J.R. Ewing : Well, darling, I haven't laid eyes on Uncle Jason in... since I was a kid. I didn't know he had any children. And it's the easiest thing in the world for somebody who knew he is dead to come waltzing in here and ask us to take them in.

Bobby Ewing : Look, uh, Jamie, my brother may not be very subtle at times, but he does have a point. How can we be sure you are who you say you are?

    Jamie Ewing : That's okay.

    [with disdain:]

Jamie Ewing : I guess when you have a lot of money you always think somebody wants something from you. Here, uh... here's my Alaska driver's license. Has my name on it.

    [gives it to Bobby]

Bobby Ewing : It's Jamie Ewing.

Jamie Ewing : And that there, that's a picture of Daddy and Uncle Jock before they split up.

Bobby Ewing : That's Daddy, all right.

    [hands it to J.R]

J.R. Ewing : Well, I guess that's Uncle Jason. At least that's what I remember he looked like.

Jamie Ewing : Where's Miss Ellie? Why don't you ask her? She'd know for sure.

Sue Ellen Ewing : She's not here. And I'm afraid that we have totally forgotten our manners. I'm Sue Ellen Ewing, and this is my husband, J.R. Ewing. And his brother Bobby. His fiancée Jenna.

    [Jenna nods]

Sue Ellen Ewing : And this is their brother Ray and his wife Donna.

    Jamie Ewing : Hi.

    Donna Culver Krebbs : Hi.

    Ray Krebbs : Jamie...

Jamie Ewing : Well, I guess it is kind of hard for y'all to believe me. But I would like to say that it is... nice to finally meet y'all.

Donna Culver Krebbs : But it's nice to meet you too. And I think we have stood here long enough asking you a bunch of dumb questions instead of offering you something to drink or eat.

Sue Ellen Ewing : You do look a little tired. Would you like something?

Jamie Ewing : Well, if you are fixing lunch, I would be obliged. I mean, I... I have been on the road for a while...

Sue Ellen Ewing : [comes forward]  Of course. I'll show you to the guest room and you can take a shower and we'll all have lunch together.

Jamie Ewing : Now I don't wanna put you out.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Oh, I insist. Get your bags.

    [Jamie picks them up]

Sue Ellen Ewing : Okay, you unpack. You're gonna stay right here with us.

Jamie Ewing : Well, I was gonna get a room in town.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Nonsense. You're a *Ewing.* This is where you belong. Come on.

    [horse neighs in background]

J.R. Ewing : [watching them walk off]  Boy, if that's not a bolt out of the blue.

Ray Krebbs : Sure gave her a nice, warm welcome.

J.R. Ewing : [with a sigh]  Distant relatives, I just love 'em. We just get rid of Clayton Farlow's crazy sister, and now we're opening our home to some kind of drifter.

  • J.R. Ewing : Pam's not your problem anymore, Bob. You've got to get her off your mind.

Bobby Ewing : I wish I could. She's still there.

  • J.R. Ewing : Distant relatives, I just love 'em. We just get rid of Clayton Farlow's crazy sister, and now we're opening our home to some kind of drifter.

    Bobby Ewing : She's family, J.R.

J.R. Ewing : Uh. Well, it's gonna take more than what I've seen so far to prove that to me.
