Sam plays charades "with the pig"
FlushingCaps1 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This was always a favorite of mine. When I viewed it again today, thought I'd share my thoughts.

It is absolutely one of this fine series best episodes. The plot is simple--Lisa asks Oliver about the door between the living room and the bathroom--after 3 years, they've never tried to open it. After struggling, Oliver bursts it open--and tumbles into a cellar.

Lisa follows him, then they find an entrance to a cave that's beneath their kitchen. In there is an old still that Oliver figures was used by Haney's father during Prohibition. Naturally, a sneeze from Lisa and a tap from Oliver are all it takes for a cave in, trapping the pair in the cave.

But they find a pipe leading to the kitchen. Eb comes in the kitchen and talks to them, and races to Drucker's to get help to dig them out. But he falls, bumps his head, and can't remember why he was rushing to Sam's store.

As Oliver and Lisa wait through the day, we get Hank Kimble and then Arnold the pig coming in. Each is told to get help. When Lisa points out that they should have to wait much longer--that someone should bring help, Oliver laments, "We've got a great group going for us."

My favorite scene is where Haney and Sam are in the store when Arnold rushes in and tries to tell Sam about the cave-in. Sam doesn't understand, so Arnold picks up objects, like a dog leash, then points to the word "Less" on the sign, getting Sam to realize he's trying to tell him something about "Douglas." Haney asks, "Sam, are you going to play charades with the pig, or wait on me?" Arnold conveys the rest of his message and the couple are rescued.

The Douglases were never depicted in danger, just stuck in their unknown cave, next to their unknown cellar, and there isn't a lot to the story. But there were a lot of funny lines, particularly from Oliver.

Several episodes in this fifth season were below par for the series, but this one helps make up for the others.
