The director of Kanye West’s latest music video for “Fade,” Eli Russel Linnetz, is just 24 years old, but he’s no stranger to the work of artists who made their mark on society long before he was born. Linnetz recently told The New York Times about his inspirations for the video, which features actress and singer Teyana Taylor in a steamy shower scene with her real life husband and Cleveland Cavalier Iman Shumpert.
“‘Flashdance’ is just so iconic that it’s hard to move away from that, but the Ohio Players’ album covers were our starting point,” Linnetz told the Times. “Some people picked up on the Grace Jones boxing images by Jean-Paul Goude. I pulled a lot of references from ’70s and ’80s porn, just on Pornhub. That was less about the imagery and more about the texture of the skin, the oiliness. There’s John Carpenter films,...

All right, so Kanye West has had a rough couple of years. He's aired his lunacies to millions on Twitter. He's a punching bag for TV journalists. And worst of all, the only things he's created are the Kanye Interruptus meme and one lame album. (No link on that last one).
But his craziest feat in recent memory: scoring a 10 out of 10 rating for his new album on Pitchfork and launching with some of the most beautiful and controversial cover art of any hip-hop album in recent memory. (Rolling Stone gave it 5/5, too.)It's called "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," and it's very, very good--but you got that.
So what's the deal with the covers? There are five of them, all commissioned to 53-year-old New York artist George Condo, an abstract painter who came up in the '80s with the likes of Keith Haring and has several pieces in the permanent collection at Moma.

Kanye West's Album Cover
Just four hours ago Kanye West unveiled the cover art work for the upcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, via his handy twitter account. Posting several comments in a bit of rage as he heard the cover had been, “Banned In the USA.” He goes on to mention the task of the artists along with his plight for his creative muscle he is trying to express. Many stores/family chains are claiming they don’t wish to house the disc due to the graphic artwork. No word yet on what the final art work will be and if there is a chance to purchase the intended overall album.
The cover, from artist George Condo, features a man whom appears to be Mr. West lounging back on a couch while a white beastly looking woman straddles his leg in some sort of lap dance situation.
