Living to steal another day

'Talespin' has always been a show dear to my heart. One of those favourites from a young age that holds up really well, and is even more entertaining through adult eyes from appreciating the writing and stories even more.

Have been on a roll reviewing individual episodes for certain shows, animated, non-animated and of as many genres as possible (many as part of certain quests), and decided to do it with 'Talespin' and some others. Something that, as expected and hoped, has proven to be a more than worthwhile project and experience. "A Bad Reflection on You" is wonderful and another one of my favourites.

The animation is very colourful and atmospheric as always. The music matches what is going on perfectly and it is impossible to forget or resist the theme song, one of the catchiest for anything Disney and ever.

Writing is witty, very funny without being too silly and thought-probing without being complicated. Things don't get too childish and it is all easy to follow. The story is hugely compelling and lively in pace without being rushed, and executes a nice idea imaginatively with a bucket-load of action and adventure.

Baloo is a fun and likeable lead character. Shere Khan is suitably suave and menacing and Kit is neither too cute or too bratty, an appealing kid rather than an annoying one and his chemistry with Baloo has heart. Rebecca is charming and suitably shrewd and ambitious without it going overboard that it grates.

Voice acting is terrific, Ed Gilbert being a spirited Baloo. Sally Struthers and RJ Williams are also on the money and Tony Jay couldn't have been a more perfect successor to George Sanders voicing Shere Khan and takes the joint top honours here along with Jim Cummings as the ever ruthless Don Karnage.

Overall, wonderful. 9/10 Bethany Cox

A Bad Reflection on you.

When Kit saves Baloo and the other prisioners, why does Baloo rise his cap and look at Kit with a strange eye, suggesting he is suspecting of something? I haven't got what message the author wanted us to understand. The episode also does not show any Baloo's regret for what he has done to Kit. That trophy in the end does not make it up to anything. Baloo tells Kit not to let it go to his head, such as he did in the beginning of part 1, when Kit helps Baloo to dodge the moutains in the storm. It has sounded that Baloo was not sorry for anything wrong he has done when he earned the trophy and mistreated Kit. In the end he keep giving lessons instead of showing he was wrong. I particularly haven't seen any Baloo's regret. He shoud have apologized.
