Too Much Drama
13 January 2013 | by (Valencia, Spain) – See all my reviews

I thought that part one was very good because it focused on the superheroes, and Thor and the Hulk were an integral part of the story.

In this second episode, the Hulk never appears until the very end of the story, and he is by himself. His screen time is around one minute. There is endless drama of Bruce Banner being tortured by some Government scientist, and Banner begging Betsy Ross for help, forgiveness, etc. Too much drama. Who cares? We are talking about the Incredible Hulk. The endless efforts by the worst of Marvel Comics' writers to emasculate the Hulk via Bruce Banner are insipid and lame.

The fact that Banner is often used as the Hulk to solve a problem, and then left to be imprisoned as Banner is not very ethical on the part of the Avengers or SHIELD.

Just as bad is that Thor is hardly in this episode at all. Apparently, since Thor's Mjolnar hammer can destroy most of the Craptari aliens, they wanted Thor out of the picture. Similarly, the Hulk's gamma radiation turns vibranium into a brittle substance, so the Hulk was not in this much.

Instead, we get 73 minutes of Wakanda and this bizarre tribe of slaves that lives in a mountain in the middle of Africa. I never got what was special about The Black Panther. He is a dictator, and everyone in his nation are slaves. Since the 1960s, until now, you see the people of this nation are always kneeling down as slaves whenever The Black Panther walks by. That is not much of a hero, in my opinion.

Of course, the special Vibranium mountain is under Wakanda, and that is what the aliens want. The Avengers want to help, but they are not wanted. The Black Panther wants help, but his people think he has betrayed their laws and traditions. Too much drama.

This is supposed to be a cartoon. If I wanted to see The Guiding Light or General Hospital, I would. I want to watch a cartoon to see superheroes fighting supervillains, and for all the great battles that are too expensive to do in a live-action movie. In a cartoon you can have ten super-characters blowing up buildings and bridges and cities. Those kind of special effects would cost hundreds of millions in a live action movie.

So, instead of great battles and great special effects, we get a lot of drama and moping around, and sensitivity training. There were some fights, but it was mostly Captain America and the Black Panther. That would have been fine, if the enemy had been different.

Iron Man was not used much, and his characterization as an arrogant guy does not fit his history. Also, when he is flying around and talking, it sounds like he has a couple of giant speakers on his back. That was really cheesy. Hank Pym is portrayed as a total jerk. He was never like that in the comic books. It was not an appropriate characterization.

Overall, this was not bad, but it could have been a lot better. The two Ultimate Avengers movies put together are just over two hours. With some better editing of the endless drama, these two movies could have been sold as one movie which would have had a lot of action and would have been a great movie. Instead, we get two movies which are just over an hour each, and we the customers are paying full price.
