Horror anthology, shot on video style
Leofwine_draca26 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
FRIGHT CLUB is an entirely cheap shot-on-video horror anthology containing three lacklustre horror stories. The wraparound tale is about a bunch of people going to a night club and being assailed by the stories that unfold. The first tale is based around werewolves, the second is a blaxploitation effort about vampires, and the third is an Asian one that references the Frankenstein story. There are some mild S&M elements and gore in the film, but overall the effect is quite boring and uninspiring.

Tell a Story, Join the Club

Warning: Spoilers
First story: Little Red Riding in the Hood.

Opening montage: She scares away monsters who apparently she wants to play with, and then has sex naked with some evil guy, then is blessed by Jesus! End montage...wait! It was all just a dream. Wild dream. Except for the montage, which seemed interesting but this segment was not really that exciting. I mean, she lives at her mother's house and goes to a psychic who says she's cursed by a wolf then she finds her grandmother torn to shreds her ex trying to get money from her but then he gets shot by an FBI agent from earlier who was hitting on her, and he turns out to be a werewolf and a minute later he's dead. Sounds eventful but went nowhere. I mean, the dream in the beginning was the best part and it only lasted a minute but had a lot in it.

Second story: The Boy Who Cried Vamp

This starts off boring except for the girl dancing in that silver outfit. So this guy has been arrested for murder, and then it shows the girl dancing, and then he and this other girl have a tiff, and then he wakes up at home. I liked his mother: she was no nonsense. Then it gets more boring with him trying to get his music career going of "Goth Hop" like "Hip Hop". Then he has sex with a vampire, a hot vampire. Then it gets boring again.

Third story: Spare Parts

I have no idea about this one. It's like there's a lot going on but then doesn't seem as anything is going on. It starts the first ten or so minutes introducing varying characters which normally would be fine but the first two stories were uninventive and short. You have two cops they introduce (who seem poor at their job) which one of them is married to a teacher at a church. Then you have this older married man who's into his car or cars in general, and then a scientist who gets his funding taken away and becomes mad and turns his brother into a clown masked murderer seeking revenge! And that's it.

Then comedy for the storytellers. It was so anticlimactic.

Production value wasn't that bad. Some of the actors could actually act (like the character "Ángel" from the third story) but most others couldn't act very well. The direction wasn't too bad, I think the script is what killed it for me. There's action and horror and gore but not when needed and most scenes just drag forever.

Overall, not horrible but could have been way better especially since they actually seemed to put some effort into it.

JUST URBAN LEGEND
nogodnomasters1 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Three people want to join a fright club. They must each tell a scary story. The stories include a variation of Little Red Riding Hood, a vampire tale, and a body parts harvester. None of them were anything to write home about.

The film wasn't anything that would grab you and make you remember it. The special effects at the end looked very fake,

I would take a pass.

Sex and nudity.

Guess we gotta talk about Fright Club
Woodyanders22 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This horror anthology boasts a neat urban horror hook with each story given a pronounced specific ethnic slant. The first tale "Little Red Riding in the Hood" offers a Hispanic variant on Little Red Riding Hood that's by far the strongest segment thanks to a cool twist pertaining to the big bad wolf's identity. The second vignette "The Boy Who Cried Vamp" is a hip-hop tale of vampirism that presents a few sexy lady bloodsuckers, but alas is seriously lacking in punch. The final anecdote "Spare Parts" is the weakest story because it meanders too much and the masked avenger character proves to be pretty lame. The wraparound segment ends on a good'n'gruesome note. However, the extremely variable acting and cheapo production values doom this one to outright mediocrity. A passable diversion at best.

It Rocks!

Warning: Spoilers
This is an awesome independent horror film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the blood and guts, and am a fan of Tyger's since Curse of the 49er. All of the characters are great and funny too. You can't expect a high budget film, because this is a different genre. Yet, the stories are great, and the kids telling them are great. I like the way the director ties the stories together, and wraps it all up in a classic ending. My favorite story was the vampire story, and my favorite scene in the film was the scene where one of the kids (Kassandra), gets attacked by a demon with a gross tongue. I would recommend picking this film up at the video store if you are into this genre.
