Trivia

Mark Kirkland was raised in New York City in an environment similar to the one where the marriage retreat was held. He therefore enjoyed drawing and overseeing the scenery for the episode, and the bait shop was based on the bait shops he visited when he grew up. See more »

Goofs

At the gathering in the beginning of this episode, Homer eventually gets drunk to the point of dancing on the couch with a lampshade on his head and saying "I'm the funniest guy in the world!" Reverend Lovejoy is sitting on the couch when Homer falls over and has his drink spilled on him. In the next shot where Marge looks irritated, Reverend Lovejoy is also in the background (somewhere besides sitting on the couch) looking shocked. See more »

Quotes

[reaching the end of her list of Homer's flaws]
Marge: He drinks out of the carton. He never changes the baby. When he goes to sleep, he makes chewing noises. When he wakes up, he makes honking noises. Oh, oh, and he scratches himself with his keys. I guess that's it... Oh, no, wait. He kicks me in his sleep and his toenails are too long, and yellow.

Solid Episode!
2 May 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

The twentieth episode in the second season of the Simpsons is a fairly good one that has some amusing moments. It's another one of those episodes where the marriage of Homer and Marge seems to be in disarray and we seem to be getting many of these episodes in the first two seasons. But nonetheless, this was a solid and funny episode.

In this episode, "The War of the Simpsons," Homer embarrasses Marge at a party so they head off to a mountain retreat with Reverend Lovejoy for couples counseling. Much to the anger of Marge, Homer decides to go fishing to capture the legendary General Sherman. Meanwhile, Bart and Lisa throws a huge party while under the care of Grampa.

Overall, this is a solid episode. I loved the interaction between Homer and the fish, Sherman. Definitely the best part of this episode. I rate this episode 9/10.
