No One Wins

Sometimes there are situations that set the road in one direction. Even though there are good and bad people, nothing can change it; no one can be punished adequately. This shows how youthful indiscretions can come back to haunt, even a person who has repented. Decent but gut wrenching episode.

Warning: Spoilers
When the body of George Pender is found hanging in the woods. The pathologist is convinced that it was suicide.

Wycliffe is not so sure. Pender was a magistrate, a retired successful businessman, a happy family life and in seemingly good health.

Police investigations show that Pender was not universally liked. A strict magistrate he made several enemies.

His son was about to get engaged but something about his girlfriend had upset Pender.

There is a bit of tension between Wycliffe and the pathologist in this one regarding whether it was suicide or not.

The town of Plymouth is the key to the mystery. Pender had lived there many years ago and his son's girlfriend also born there.

The weakness was that the potential incest storyline was a bit too obvious.
