The wrong time to be a father
bkoganbing23 April 2013
This episode of Wagon Train features James Gregory and June Lockhart as a pair of easterners from Baltimore making the trip west. They have to as Gregory dissipated the family fortune and this trip is an opportunity to start fresh as it was with so many who went west.

They made an attempt the year before, but did not make the trip as Lockhart broke the news she was pregnant. Gregory was not thrilled at the prospects of being a father, the baby is coming right at the wrong time. The trip is postponed a year and his aunt from Baltimore played by Ann Doran shows up to help with the baby. She does more than that, she takes over and when Lockhart gives her the heave ho she puts a curse on them.

Later on when they do take the Wagon Train the two go through a rough patch when some fever breaks out.

This was not one of the best episodes, but fans of the show should like it. The problems these two have seem rather artificial or were artificially written. Ann Doran's character leaves abruptly and I wish we saw more of her. Lockhart and Gregory give good performances however and it's decent enough, but far from the best of the Wagon Train stories.

The character "Mary" who had a significant speaking part is not credited. There is mention of "fever" but no specifics. Yellow fever is not transmitted by human/human contact.
