World renowned Violinist Jan Servaas has returned to Amsterdam to give a performance, but his behaviour becomes erratic after a series of threats and the deliberate destruction of his Stradivarius, Servaas proves uncooperative.
A very good episode, with a good mystery, and am unusual victim, one that seems reluctant to accept the help of The Police, and seems to be happy to dance with death when it comes to his own life.
I think this may be my favourite of the opening trio of episodes, everything has settled down so well, so quickly. Barry Foster is a class act as the central character, we've already discovered that he's intelligent, sarcastic, and definitely loves a couple of drinks, don't ask me why but I'm a little reminded of John Thaw's Morse. Foster's Dutch pronunciation seems to be rather good.
It continues to look a little cheap and flimsy unfortunately, the external shots however make up for that, nothing beats seeing Amsterdam.
Always good to see Geoffrey Bayldon, would he have been at the height of his popularity around about this time?
A fine episode, 8/10.
