Why would a guy just accept a guilty verdict and prison sentence when he was innocent?
planktonrules6 March 2016
Harold J. Stone stars in this episode of "The Untouchables" and, like many of the show's episodes, the featured actor has been in multiple episodes playing a variety of characters. While Stone didn't always play bad guys, his characters all had one thing in common...they were all VERY hard-headed guys! In this case, he plays the title character, Tommy Karples, a man who inexplicably did not offer much defense when he was accused of robbery and murder. While he had a criminal background and Ness wasn't saddened by his incarceration, he is determined to find out who really was at fault and he is curious why Karples didn't use his daughter as an alibi as he's convinced she can prove he isn't guilty.

So is any of this any good? Yep. As usual, Stone is terrific though I was much more impressed by a more minor character in the show played exceptionally well by Murray Hamilton. The guy was an incredible weasel...a lowlife that really made the show work well. Also along for the great ride were Joseph Wiseman (of "Dr. No" fame), Vic Morrow and, in a tiny part, Glenn Strange (who played Frankenstein in many 1940s Universal films). All in all, well written and very well acted...and well worth seeing.

This series has a "Noir"presentation especially over the shadow of the night when starts a train robbery that ended up in murder, one million dollars of negotiable bonds are stolen of the mail wagon, using the gas's technics launched inside.

Along the investigation process they found the mastermind of the robbery Tommy Karpeles (Harold J. Stone) sentenced to life imprisonment he stays swearing that did not do that, however has tabled weak witnesses in courthouse, without recover the haul that remains unknown, Eliot Ness reopen the case suspecting that has someone behind and Karpeles is just a scapegoat.

The Untouchables starting figure out how many burglars used to the gas's technics applied and the list shortens deeply, remaining to a few, soon appears the first hint, Eliot's crew track down it reaching in Sally Karpeles (Madlyn Rhue) sole Tommy's daughter, perceiving the Ness's rapprochement the gang leader Abert Maris (Joseph Wiseman) aided for his right-hand man Collier (Vic Morrow) fast-acting to sells those bonds, firstly kidnaping Sally Karpeles.

Fine episode where all spotlight going to breathtaking beauty of Madlyn Rhue and the upcoming star Vic Morrow through its undeniable rough type.

Great Cast Makes This Edgy Episode A Winner
ccthemovieman-119 September 2011
The four guest stars in here were all very familiar faces from the '60s and '70s - Harold J. Stone, Joseph Wiseman, Murray Hamilton and Madlyn Rhue.

Stone usually played a hard-nosed guy. He had the face and voice for it. Wiseman has a good resume for the big screen as well as the small screen. He played "Dr. No" in the title role in the first James Bond movie! Hamilton was much more versatile and on TV lot but actually became better-known after his role as the mayor in the 1975 famous "Jaws" movie. Rhue was a stunning beauty whose career was cut short due to illness.

Anyway, the story is a pretty good one. It has to be with monikers like "Tough Tommy Karpelas" and "Arnie 'The Wolf' Mendoza." There is a lot of edge to this story, more than normal with an intense ending.
