Some time back, General Hoagland was up for the same job that General Savage now occupies as head of the bomber group. Hoagland is resentful and seems to do his best to undermine Savage. This culminates in Hoagland visiting the base and going on a mission with Savage. During the mission, the plane is hit and Hoagland bails out...and is strafed by a German fighter plane!
