The character of John is by far the worst one in the series. It's not hard to see why the character was written out at the end of the season. He doesn't fit into the vibe of the show at all. All of the other main characters have something special or interesting about them and their actors have a certain charm. Having an episode focus on John seemed like an experiment gone wrong by the writing staff. Somehow the story of John and his wife having money problems even managed to drag down Rieger. If not for the scenes with Latka this episode would be a solid zero. If it was a pilot episode the show never would have made it on the air. You can skip this one.
