Dante (stellar work from Michael Pare) is reunited with Ike (a solid and likable portrayal by James Coombes), an old friend who was a rival for Penny's affections. Ike's shady business partner Marco (ably played to the splendidly slippery hilt by Matthew Brenhar) works with the Raiders to locate special seeds that can grow in any climate. Meanwhile, Percy (Tanya Allen in delightfully sharp and spunky form) suspects that Lucretia (the always reliable Claudette Roche) has a hidden agenda. This episode neatly explores the weighty themes of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal while the snappy pace and tricky twist-ridden plot keep things humming throughout. Pare and Coombes display an engaging rapport as a couple of longtime buddies, Tony Marra contributes a chilling turn as a sadistic Raider leader, and Brenhar excels as the supremely smarmy and treacherous opportunist Marcos. Moreover, there are a few nice bits of humor as well as some touching stuff about Percy's need for companionship. One of this show's strongest hours.
