Stale storyline that has been done too many times on SG1. Though a different villain, the concept and outcome were expected. Decent enough acting from the cast. New doctor was monotone.

The Return of Anubis
claudio_carvalho7 May 2018
Sam and a Russian operator supervise a Russian Station that is getting rid of debris from Anubis´ spaceship. There is a communication breakdown for a short period and then the system is restored. At the SGC, General O´Neill is surprised by the arrival of Russian Col. Alexi Vaselov as part of the joint venture of their governments. Out of the blue, Alexi collapses with symptoms of an infection and Daniel is infected and tries to use the Stargate to leave the SGC. Dr. Brightman requests medical examination of the officers and crew of the SGC and O´Neill seals the facility in quarantine. But soon the SG-1 concludes that the essence of Anubis has survived and is using hosts switching bodies expecting to flee from the SGC. What will O´Neill do?

"Lockdown" is another great episode of "Stargate SG-1". Anubis recalls the demon in "Fallen" (1998), switching bodies without a trace. The episode is well-resolved and the character Col. Alexi Vaselov has a great participation. My vote is nine.

It's Gavin Hood!
XweAponX2 September 2014
After the obliteration of Anubis' Fleet and his second huge "Mother" Mothership, there are all kinds of pieces of junk floating around in orbit. One of these almost hits what looks like the Mir space station. Anubis' First MegaMothership was destroyed over Laangara/Cowlonna - Anubis seemed to have a never ending supply of these ships which dwarf "regular" Motherships.

But debris is the least of our worries, inside this particular piece of junk was Anubis' "Ghost".

It was bad enough when Anubis had a body, now he can float around and take over anyone he wants to, shades of "The Hidden" - The only way to identify a "Host" that has been Anubis-Infected is to notice that it starts rotting away. But since it takes a while for this decay to begin, it is difficult to identify "Where's Waldo", especially when Anubis plays "Musical Bodies".

Fortunately, as with All Goa'Uld, they don't know the meaning of the word "Covert". Even after Anubis had driven Colonel Alexi Vaselov like one of those Blue guys from "Avatar" for a week, he does something to give himself away: He might have even convinced Jack to put him on SG-1, if he had not been so insistent. When he fails to get Gate Access inside of Vaselov's body, he gets into Daniel Jackson, who made it all the way to the Embarkation Room with an Open Stargate before he was found out.

So now it's "How do we get rid of unwanted Anubis Ghosts"? Well, mainly by "Gennel" Jack calling for a full Lockdown. Even after the great double intro episode for Season 7, and Jack's new Position as Brigadier Gennel, it was hard for me to swallow that "Jack is the Man" - And he has to stick it to himself because of a serious lack of Hammonds to stick it to.

The highlight of this episode it of course Director/Actor Gavin Hood as Russian Colonel Alexi Vaselov. Hood, who has taken over Direction of the Wolverine Sub-Franchise and also did Ender's Game, is a fine "Russian Colonel" in this episode. He is not just a "vessel" for Anubis, when he is acting as himself he is an honorable man, one of the rare honorable men who come and go into Stargate/Homeworld Command, as opposed to the Kinseys and the Maybournes of the past.

This is also the first appearance of Dr. Brightman as played by Alisen Down, look for her as an "Alteran" in "The Ark of Truth". She was Brightman again in four episodes of Stargate Universe.

After SG-1 plays hide and seek with Anubis, it took a great sacrifice by Hood/Vaselov to get him out of Stargate Command. The story of Anubis is eventually dealt with in "The Reckoning" and "Threads" - Suffice it to say here, he is almost a worse threat than before, he can't be killed. And if he takes a host, it's goodbye host, unless he is chased out. But Vaselov is able to stop him, at least for now.

I love this series but f$cking christ this was bad
rsbluedragon31 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
They straight up let it happen. They let him walk through the portal, for no reason. Nothing was stopping the team from zatting the host of anubis, they just stood there and watched; poor writing. The return of a bad guy who was thought dead? Writers must've been scratching their heads for weeks on that one. Speaking of which, this is the 30th foothold episode, so I gotta ask, did someone get fired on the writing team? If not then I can't imagine why good excuse from this

This is tired Sci-Fi!

This overused trope of "aliens take over the heroes" is done TO Death! SG-1 has done it more times than I can remember and I'm soooo over it. Write better stories. Write a foot-hold situation (aka bottle show) with our heroes not being taken over, or aliens "pretending" to be them.:.after a strong opening to the season this was a huge disappointment.

Anubis Returns, Boredom Ensues
fcabanski18 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It gets a 4 for two reasons. Anubis is revealed to not be dead. Technically, that forwards the overall story. The writers clued in the audience to what was going on, while keeping the characters in the dark. That creates drama. Later in the episode the writers tried to trick the audience, but it was obvious when Anubis was in control of folks in the big finale. Without those elements, it would have been a 1.

Hammond is back, kind of. The actor who played young Hammond in the episode 1969 appears as Major Kearney.

The new, temporary doctor, Doctor Wooden Actress, sure doesn't steal any scenes.

The drama over the type of potato used in the mess was overall more interesting than the main plot.

You must to be joking with this!

In short, I am watching the sg1 series for the second time, I left a very positive overall impression, but sometimes I see such nonsense in the episodes that it is immeasurable, this episode is the leader in nonsense. So, in this episode, we have a character who was moved to base sg1, this is a base where the rule is clear literally from season 1 that everyone must undergo a medical examination, but by some huge coincidence the character slips through without an examination or has been on an examination and most highest-ranking doctors in the world they didn't notice the festering blisters on his hand that are as big as a small bird or elevated white boold cels, come on, you can't remain indifferent to something like this, you have to comment. Or an even better case is the explanation that the "ancient" will help when he uses the powers of the ancients, a half-ascended being passes through walls and steals bodies, he only has these possibilities because he is ascended, but that is not enough for rest of ancient to help. Whoever was the script producer or reviewer during this episode, I hope he never did make anything again. Artistic freedom is one thing, but debilism is something completely different!

Please universe make it stop!

OMG. Made it to Season eight. Watched the first two episodes in like 5 minutes (no, seriously both in 5 minutes). First couldn't get regular disk to play, so started "New Order" with director cut; a bunch of glib Hollywood actors that think people want to see them act campy and sheek as they fail upward and always act like they're auditioning. I would be embarrassed to claim I was the director of this tripe, let alone act like it is so impressive everyone will want to be me, Vomit time).

So... back to the glitchy playing CD, but with out arse voice over. Didn't help. Watch both in like 5 minutes. Had a different one leading end of Season 7, for some PC agenda I guess, who was played by a completely different actress start of Season 8 for same role. Again, no idea why the introjection which ruined the pacing, which doesn't have anyway, but... just so they could put that bit in there. And then do commentaries on how progressive they are, I guess.

Ah, and idiot Jack, same as always. But wait... wonder how such a nit could be a Colonel? Ah, he's more of an irritating one-liner court jester and now... he's a General! Brilliant. About right.

God make it stop.
