I killed it and I will eat it.

Warning: Spoilers
Well, here we are ---- full serialization mode. It is tricky to provide a quality episode review when you only have a piece of the puzzle --- instead I will highlight some of my insights from this 3 episode arc and provide a score.

  • I enjoyed the plot of Ezri going into the badlands to save Worf. It is in keeping with the Dax symbionts history and it is sweet. Nice touch by Sisko to let her do it with a half hearted slap on the wrist admonishment.

  • Dukat is a clear front runner for most deliciously despicable character in trek history. Although, it is somewhat therapeutic to watch Winn (the manipulator) be completely played by another. It's no revelation to discover that Winn is not a believer and was using the bajoran religion as a sword to gain power.

  • Damar is a bit late to the galactic resistance party --- but --- better late than never. Must have been quite the revelation to realize your society is completely doomed.

  • Sisko and Cassidy are getting married against the will of the prophets. Well, well --- what is going to happen when you go against MOM.

All episodes were well acted and the plot moved along briskly. Nothing moved me but I was engaged.

Reasonably good episode continues plot development of 'Penumbra'
snoozejonc16 October 2023
Sisko grapples with a disturbing message from the profits.

The plot regarding Sisko gets slightly better as the drama created by the Prophet involvement is more interesting than the tedious wedding plans that came before, however some of it feels a bit forced for the sake of it. Sisko could have timed a certain discussion until after he had made his mind up and the secrecy of the Phrophet's motivations feels frustratingly pointless.

Worf and Ezri have more contrived scenes of antagonism that feel repetitive and like a soap opera at times, but the involvement of the Breen does eventually get to somewhere intriguing by the end.

Easily the most compelling plot thread involves Dukat and Winn. These are two solid baddies coming together for dastardly dealings and it works well. The performances of Marc Alaimo and Louise Fletcher lift the material significantly.

It is another necessary episode to watch for continuity and the foundations for the conclusion feel like they are being laid.

It is a 6.5/10 for me but I round upwards.

Prisoners of the Breen
Tweekums21 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This episode ended where the previous one left off; Ezri and Worf are prisoners on a Breen ship and Sisko is wondering what to do after the Prophets told him marrying Kasidy will lead to sorrow. We also learn why Dukat has had surgery to appear Bajoran when he arrives on the station posing a farmer who fits the description of a man Kai Winn believes the prophets told her to expect.

Aboard the Breen ship Worf and then Ezri are taken off and subjected to some unseen torture, when back Ezri is back she is talking fairly incoherently but Worf clearly hears her state her love for Julian, when she comes to he berates her for this and doesn't believe her when she says any feelings for the doctor are strictly platonic. It isn't until the end of the episode that we learn the Breen's reason for taking them prisoner; a reason that could tip the war against the Federation. While we don't yet know what Dukat is doing trying to insinuate himself into Kai Winn's life one can be sure it will not end well. Sisko eventually decides to follow his heart and marry Kasidy which causes Kira some concern as she believes everything the prophets say should be heeded.

As the series approaches its conclusion less episodes have conclusions and more end with a cliff hangers which keep the viewer wanting to see what will happen in the next episode.

It's Not Easy Being Breen (I Couldn't Help Myself)
Hitchcoc12 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So new alliances are being put together. The Kai has unknowingly pledged herself to Gul Dukat in disguise (sounds rather Shakespearean doesn't it?). The wedding is off and then on again. The Dominion continues to play games with Damar. The Vorta still haven't found a cure for the disease infecting the Founder. The Prophets have said obtuse stuff, as usual. Worf and company are delivered to the Dominion as gifts, and it appears the final solution is about to begin. Here we go!!!

The Best Addition With the Worst Addition!
spasek23 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The second of a two-parter that actually carries through to the end of the series has three major plot points: 1) Sisko wants to marry Yates, despite the Bajoran Prophets warning him that to do so would be catastrophic. 2) Dukat has had plastic surgery to pass himself off as a Bajoran. Along with a story, he infiltrates Kai Wenn's inner circle. 3) The best addition to the DS9 cast in Worf is a prisoner aboard a Breen warship along with the worst addition to the DS9 cast in Ezri Dax (pitifully played by amateur/sub-par actress Nicole De Boer.

The first two plot points are well played out leaving the viewer to wonder how the impact of Sisko's decision and Dukat's plans will ultimately affect what is happening at DS9.

The final plot point has Ezri Dax, still portrayed like a 16-year-old schoolgirl (and the maturity level of that age to boot) and Worf sharing a cell. Both are tortured and both begin having strange dreams. This is after the cringe-worthy coupling between the two in the previous episode that has the viewer going, "No, No, NO! Please, God! No!" It has me continue to wish that the Dax character had been written out altogether. I'd rather have none than a bad one.

Overall, this is a good second-parter. My only resignation is that Ezri Dax is used as a major character in the plot.

Again, this one is hard to really rate or review, as it's all one very big plot from here on.
planktonrules28 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
During the last few remaining episodes of "Star Trek: Deep Space 9", instead of the usual self-contained plots, these were abandoned in favor of more of a soap opera plot--with stories that stretched from episode to episode and lasted until the stirring finale.

In this particular episode, Ezri and Worf continue to be held by the Breen but by the end of the show they learn that they are being presented to the Dominion as gifts from their new allies the Breen. Captain Sisko is hesitant about marrying Casidy as the Prophets have come to him to tell him to continue his path and not marry. But the most interesting is the relationship that's blossoming between Kai Winn and her new BFF, a humble farmer who is actually Gul Dukat in disguise.

Overall, it's all very interesting stuff but something you cannot really assess on its own due to the structure of the plots. A must- see for fans of the series, however.

Part of the Star Wars Universe?
hooliosanchez4 October 2023
The episode is hard to review, seeing that it is the middle of a big plot that is tidying up the end of the series, but did anyone notice that the Breen helmets are just like one of the alien characters in the 1st Star Wars movie? Massive coincidence, or did they get them off the scrap heap, or what? Several movies re-used the robot from "Forbidden Planet" so it's not a first.

This series has come full circle in that it started out exploring the characters like Odo and Kira as beings from planets other than earth, but it suddenly turned into a human (from the USA) soap opera, with people worried about marriage and rings etc.
