"You're a funny ***!"

Season 5, Episode 7, "The Non-Fat Yogurt" One of the best episodes of the wonderful fifth season, "The Non-Fat Yogurt" offers one of Seinfeld's more outlandish plots, but it works seamlessly somehow. The story lines clash perfectly for a truly satisfying episode and hilarious ending.

All four members of the core cast get to shine on this episode, especially Jerry and George. It's notable for being the first appearance of George's childhood enemy Lloyd Braun, as well as for managing to deal with curse words WITHOUT ACTUALLY UTTERING ANY REAL ONES and still being side-splittingly funny. In fact, the blipping out of the curse words makes them much more hilarious. Modern comedies should take a lesson from that.

Seinfeld at its best

This is my favorite episode of Seinfeld. It's hard to put my finger on why. Perhaps I like the Newman episodes. He's a quirky dude and I love how excited he becomes by the "non-fat" yoghurt with hysterical laughter

Perhaps I was also impressed that they got Rudy Giuliani into this episode. And poor George and his layering of lies with the arm spasms. It's hilarious how he perseveres with the lie until it becomes a truth.

Then there's Jerry swearing at the kid. What continues to impress me is how all the Seinfeld subplots come together so wonderfully. Start on this one if you are new to Seinfeld!

Warning: Spoilers
The Plot of the episode: Kramer invests in a non-fat yogurt place, which everyone thinks it's too good to be non-fat. Especially Jerry and Elaine. Because they soon discover that they are gaining weight. They take the yogurt to a lab to see if it is fat or non fat. Jerry accidentally cusses in front of his neighbor's kid, and the kid starts cussing too. So he tries to stop him. While at the yogurt place, George runs into a child hood nemesis, Lloyd Braun, who was always more success full that him. Lloyd works for the mayor. Elaine starts to date Lloyd, and suggests an idea that could get him and the mayor in trouble.

The Non-fat yogurt is a really funny episode. I agree with you Elaine and Frank. I actually don't think that the name tag idea is that bad. I mean I wouldn't use it if I was mayor but it isn't that terrible of a suggestion. Not that bad to cost him the election. The non fat yogurt is a great episode, you fat f*ck.

At the Top of Their Game

Where to start. First of all, the characters are addicted to a frozen non-fat yogurt place where they have been five days in a row. It was started by a friend and Kramer has invested in it. Suddenly, everyone is gaining weight and the race is on to find if it really is non-fat yogurt. In a side plot, Jerry swears and the son of the yogurt people things it's ok to start throwing profanity at everyone. A secondary plot has to do with George running into an old nemesis who works for the mayor, Dinkins. He is handsome and Elaine falls in love immediately, but she has expanded a bit from the yogurt. Rudy Giuliani makes a cameo. There are stunning results.

Would be funnier if it made sense

I don't understand how not one single person pointed out to Jerry that low fat doesn't equal low calorie.

Why didn't they just make the yoghurt low calorie, story would have made much more sense when it turned out it isn't low calorie.

Non-fat, non-calorie

Warning: Spoilers
Anyway, I'm enjoying re-watching some of the episodes of Seinfeld and The Non-Fat Yoghurt comes up. Anyway, I don't know, maybe there was a malaise in the writer's room because the sum of the parts just lacked the whole. Anyway, I was more intrigued by the fact that this episode aired just after the NYC mayoral election, and two endings were filmed for each candidate. Anyway, its worth reading about the police riot that sadly shaped the 1993 NYC mayoral election and how it sadly shaped the trajectory of things. I guess no way this Seinfeld episode would have dealt with this as it wasn't just about nothing.

Worst episode of Seinfeld. Origin of trash TV started with this episode.
jason-1174918 November 2021
Reled upon obscenities rather than wit and humor. Five high-pitch irritating bleeps, setting precedent for the use of bleeps as an excuse for talented writing. Truly trash TV.
