Greatness!
ahifi24 July 2009
This was the first episode of Seinfeld I had watched in full and it happened to be an hour long special! It was such a load of fun and full of laughs, even though I didn't really know the characters too well. Plus we get to see Marisa Tomei make a cameo appearance out of nowhere!

The story revolves around a few things, the main part being that Jerry buys his father a Cadillac after landing a fortune at a big gig. But those at the condo where his father lives, and is the President of, believe he has used funds from the office to buy it.

Meanwhile, George becomes obsessed with Marisa Tomei and Kramer has a hilarious run-in with a cable guy. The chase is just fantastic! There are plenty of gags here and I recommend anyone new to Seinfeld watch this episode to get a feel for it. 9/10

One of the most underrated Seinfeld episodes
parker-5309427 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The primary plot is funny for sure. Jerry buys his Dad a Cadillac out of the blue. Then all hell breaks loose for Jerry's Dad when the folks at Del Boca Vista accuse Mr Seinfeld of embezzling money to buy the Cadillac. . But it's the subplots in this episode that are over the top hillarious. Especially the one with Kramer and the Plaza Cable Guy.....they spoof your typical 70's good guy bad guy movie brilliantly with this particular subplot. You'll shoot your drink out your nose watching this one!! 😂😂 It's my all-time favorite! Kramer was wonderful in this. Such a hipster dufus. The George / Marissa Tomei subplot was also pretty funny. George has Elaine (begrudgingly) fix him up with Marissa Tomei. This puts George at odds with his fiancé Susan. Classic George..

Watch this Episode if you haven't already. It's 1 hour long

Twice the Seinfeld? Count me in!
Samuel-Shovel14 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In "The Cadillac", Jerry earns a big paycheck from a gig and decides to use the money to buy his dad a Cadillac. Elaine learns how much Jerry makes and starts flirting with him. A friend of Elaine's happens to also be a friend of Marisa Tomei's. She tells George that he's just Marisa's type. George begins to ponder over the idea of going on a secret date with her. Meanwhile, the cable company wants to come make an alteration to Kramer's cable box. Kramer uses this as an excuse to get back at the cable company for all his years of waiting around for them. He avoids the cable man at all costs.

Jerry gives his pops the Cadillac which leads Jack Klompus to think that Morty is stealing funds from the condo association which Morty is president of. He ends up getting Morty impeached. George ends up meeting Marisa but things don't turn out great when he tells her he's engaged. Susan suspects George's cheating on her. Him and Elaine come up with an elaborate story about her boyfriend Art Vandelay. This alibi falls apart in the moment and George gets punched in the face by Susan. The cable guy breaks down and apologizes to Kramer and the two make up.

This episode made me realize how rare it is to see a sitcom go a full hour. We'll see a longer episode or a two-parter every once in a while but I can't think of a traditional sitcom on today that is an hour long.

Anyways, this is another great episode from Season 7. Art Vandelay will go down as one of my favorite aliases in TV history. I also love it when Jack Klompus gets some screentime. He's such a slimy character, it's great.

George can't quit tripping over his own feet. Just when he has a good thing going, he goes and messes it all up again. It doesn't matter if it's work, a relationship, or personal, he'll always screw it up. That's the beauty of Georgey boy!

Almost the perfect Seinfeld Episode
nickisperkins20 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The 44 minute special is a hilarious episode centered around Jerry's parents and their home, whom are two of the funniest characters outright. Elaine acts a little out of character but George's arc and Marissa Tomei are hilarious. The only reason the I have to give It a ten is because the ending breaks the shows golden rule!

First of 2 episodes where the marble rye loaf indirectly bit Jerry in the butt
kathysdogs5 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorite Seinfeld episodes, showing the flaws each member of the quartet has. Jerry after doing well and getting highly paid in his Atlantic City gig buys his parents a new Cadillac - kudos to him for doing so but no good deed goes unpunished. Morty's nemesis Jack Klompus just can't believe Jerry was doing so well & loudly proclaims he must be embezzling from their condo board in Fl. Elaine, upon hearing of Jerry's sudden prosperity, blatantly starts hitting up on. George, upon learning one of Elaine's friends is a friend of Marisa Tomei's starts pestering Elaine and her friend for Marisa's contact information, even when the latter is in a coma - he does this even though he's already engaged to Susan. In a spoof on how cable companies kept consumers waiting for many hours to show up for service, Kramer decides to do karma on the cable guy fixing to remove from Kramer's cable ill gotten HBO & Showtime by ducking him.. Upon a park date with George & Marisa, when he reluctantly reveals he's engaged, Marisa properly decks him. When Jerry goes to surprise his parents at their FL condo he objects to going with them for the early bird dinner special, offering to pay the additional cost in order to eat at a regular time - they are caught doing this by Jack & his wife - a further piece of supposed evidence of Morty's embezzlement, and he felt Morty was acting like a big shot.

Morty & Helen talk to the undecided impeachment voter, Mrs. Mable Choate - the same woman in NY whom Jerry mugged to get her loaf of marble rye bread a few episodes prior - and manage to get her on their team. The other guest stars in the impeachment scene included Jesse White - the perennial Maytag repairman in a thousand commercials - veteran of Newman-like characters in Ann Sothern's sitcoms - the real Jerry Seinfeld was a huge fan of White's and got his autograph as a child. It seemed after Mrs. Choate cast her acquittal vote all would be good for Morty; however, Jack said "I can't believe you got that old bag to go along" - which triggered her memory in "The Rye" of Jerry mugging her and saying "Shut up, you old bag" - those immortal words were also used by super bully Biff Tannen in "Back to the Future". As a result, she changed her vote as did the others who initially voted to acquit so Morty was unanimously impeached as condo president. Ending scenes: the cable guy makes up with Kramer; Morty and Helen leave the condo building in disgrace and Morty before entering the Cadillac makes gestures spoofing those Nixon made in real life while leaving the White House when he resigned from the Presidency.

The final days
safenoe27 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm enjoying re-watching most episodes of The Seinfeld, and The Cadillac is no exception, because I love the political parody in The Cadillac, particularly the final days of Nixon and Watergate and his departure from power in 1974 on the helicopter. This time, it's Morty Seinfeld who experienced the ignominy of being pushed out of power as president of the condominium, and his farewell was hilariously funny to students of politics.

Also Oscar winner Marisa Tomei makes a guest appearance, and George's infatuation with the My Cousin Vinny star, and really which male wouldn't get excited about being with Marisa.

I prefer a Benz

A good little two parter.

This review was published on March 12th 2023rd.

What is this episode about?: George is set up with Marissa Tonia and must hide it from Mrs. Costanza.

Elaine has an interesting story where where she collaborates with George Costanza on the fix up.

Kramer fueds versus the cable company.

Jerry spends the episode in Florida state and gives his dad a Cadillac and the senior citizens don't like it.

Story and production: A fun two parter. There are a lot of interesting and relatable stories going on here.

Each story is topnotch.

Highlight: a toss up between Jerry in Florida vs George wanting to meet Marisa T.

George Coming up with a lie with Elaine was funny too.

Villian: Susan. She had no proof and assaulted George.

Jack Klumpus. He's a jealous worthless mutt.

The seniors of Florida greeting vex over a Cadillac. Benz. Sure. Maybe vex over a Jaguar. But a Cadillac. Come on?

Girlfriend attractiveness level: Marissa is a good 7.2.

What can be learned? Buy a Toyota as a gift instead of A Caddy

Verdict: This episode shall never be Impeached.

Double Trouble
Hitchcoc23 February 2023
This is a amazing episode and it's a twofer. One plot has Jerry getting a big check for his performance and deciding to buy his dad a new Cadillac. Jerry goes to their retirement community to give him the car. Immediately, all his neighbors and friends believe his father bought the car out of the money he was in charge of for the development. The ostracize him and Jerry and they are forced out of the community. While this is going on, George meets Elaine and her friend at the diner. She says that if George weren't engaged, she would fix him up with Marisa Tomei, the actress. Suddenly, George begins to figure out ways to hook up with Marissa and not let Susan know. There's also a bit with Kramer, Elaine (who has neck problems) and a classic girl's Schwinn bike. It's a real hoot.

Cadillac bit was good, not a fan of cameos
chunkylefunga9 December 2021
I've never liked when famous shows get too famous and celebs are desperate to have cameo appearances.

Cadillac storyline was funny but Tomei bit was just naff and not needed.

Could easily have worked just as well, if not better if they set George up with a good looking actress and just said she was a model.

"We're gonna be late for the premiere"
juanmaffeo31 August 2016
I think this episode has some good ideas but the execution was very poor.

First of all, there's absolutely no need for this episode to be an hour long. I mean, you could see certain scenes that go on longer than they should clearly because they just didn't have enough material. Besides that, it's just not that funny. The ideas are good but the execution was not the best.

Kramer's story is funny in paper but the way they handled it not only was repetitive and monotonous but it made the story even more disjointed with the rest of the gang. The cinematic style was just out of place. George's story has a good idea: infidelity. That's a key aspect of marriage, but I don't think that the Marisa Tomei idea was the best. And Jerry's story line is simply boring. I don't know, Jerry's parents are not between my favourite supporting characters and this story is just so thin in paper that it's obvious they couldn't fill forty minutes of good material. And finally, Elaine's participation in George's story or her sudden change of heart for Jerry was just weird. I mean, it looked like she was constantly flirting with him and those scenes were just awkward.
