Wonderful final scene but...

Warning: Spoilers
Series 3 of Secret Army was the best, particularly the second half of the series so much was expected from the final episode. It should have celebrated Lifeline, but in an effort to be shocking and surprising the main story was the unconvincing court martial and execution of Major Reinhardt, which didn't work on many levels. Kessler would not have risked being discovered by going after Reinhardt, who could have identified Kessler himself anytime up to his final words. The biggest error of all, and of the whole 3 series, was allowing Monique to arrange Kessler's escape documents, completely out of character and unthinkable by the Monique we all knew.

At least the final scene at Le Candide was something very special.

Fine ending to a great series

So well acted and gives a chilling insight into reality of living under occupation and being brave enough to participate in resistance work. So many friends, relatives and innocents killed in this series because of resistance activities, never mind in the real war. Was it worth it? If you'd had your French Dutch or Belgium town and inhabitants destroyed by allied attacks in late '44 '45 would you welcome the allies? It was the only way to free Europe. The real footage of Brussels at the end was very moving.

The strong actors carry the not so great dialogue and compromised plots with several loose ends in most episodes. The sets are generally good enough but the outdoor scenes tend to be basic and not convincing enough. Overall it's well worth watching and I look forward to seeing Kessler, the follow up series.
