As someone who grew up with this show, and absolutely loves it, I totally do not understand why this episode even exists. Sure, having a mental break down exists and mental cases definitely exist, but man, this was tough to watch. This just feels so wrong and totally out of place. I'm sorry to say, this is definitely way out of whack. I suppose you have to watch it once just to say you did, but be warned, this is not what I call funny.

Cuz it's totally hilarious when someone has a psychotic break and tries to kill their child, right?

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not easily offended, but there really isn't anything funny in a woman who has had a psychotic break to the point that she is literally trying to kill her child, even if that child is an adult who towers over her. I can't imagine who thought this episode was a good idea. I generally enjoy this show's ability to "whistle in the dark" with some darker issues, but this episode totally missed the mark.
Totally Excellent!

This was one of the best shows in the latter seasons. I cant believe how superb the writing for this show was. It was brilliant from beginning to end.
Debbie Reynolds was the best I've ever seen in all her acting. This is one episode NOT to miss.
Just when you think there cant possibly be anything else left to portray, the writers dig up another hunk of meat to really chew.
This episodes title is perfect.
Comedy rises through the seriousness of this show. It is a laugh a minute, then a thought provoking scene, followed by more laughs. It is comic genius.

Arsenic and Old Mom (#9.22)

Warning: Spoilers
Dan's mother suddenly shows up at the porch. She is released from the hospital and should stay fine while she takes medications. But she doesn't want to take medications anymore and wants to kill Dan for putting her into a hospital. Dan figures it out but Roseanne doesn't believe it until she actually catches her.
Well this is some unusual idea and very well done. Dan's mom wanting to kill him for putting her in the hospital. Thats pretty well thought out although it ends pretty abrupt as she changes her mind a bit too quickly. We do have some great scenes though, like the conversation her and Roseanne have. It is just weird Roseanne says she went to a hospital 20 years ago. Dan wouldn't be to blame for that, he found out about his mom's mental issues just one or two seasons ago.
