Herne's Son: Part 1
Prismark1031 October 2020
Richard Carpenter had to introduce a new leading man for the third series. Herne the Hunter chose Robert, the son of the Earl of Huntingdon to rescue the outlaws.

However Robert regarded his task being completed. A year later, Robert makes an an enemy of Lord Owen of Clun over Marion's honour.

When the barbarian Owen later kidnaps Marion to forcibly marry her. Robert pleads with Herne to become the Hooded Man and reunite the Merries who have dispersed. Little John and Much have become shepherds.

George Baker returns as Marion's father, Sir Richard of Leaford. He has to do a deal with the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham to borrow soldiers to rescue Marion. The Sheriff has no intention of keeping his end of the bargain but plans to keep Sir Richard's lands.

Nasir initially comes to the rescue of Sir Richard. He is taken prisoner by Lord Owen who trains Nasir to fight gladiatorial contests.

Not all of the Merries are in this episode. Will Scarlet is missing outside of the recap. It really is bringing the Hooded Man to the fore. A man of honour who needs to earn the trust of Friar Truck and later Little John.

Jason Connery seems to have the right balance of good looks, action man credentials and nobility. It's a challenge to take over from a successful leading man but he seems to have acquitted himself well.

After all Jason knew that several men had to follow on from where his father left off.
