Good story with an interesting plot
kfo949414 July 2012
A beautiful women arrives by stagecoach in North Fork and is asking to see Lucas McCain. And when Lucas goes by to see the women it turns out to be a Nora Sanford, a wealthy women he knew back in Colorado. Seems like Nora has arrived In North Fork penniless and looking for a nice town to settle down. And Lucas would be a good starting point in her adventure.

However, Nora is not exactly telling the entire truth. She cons not only most of the city of North Fork but also Lucas and Mark. It seems that she may indeed be penniless but is not really looking to settle down.

While trying to get Lucas's affection and Mark's attention she may go too far in trying to prove her love. This proof may end with trouble for someone in cast.

Julie Adams, who plays Nora, is a picture of beauty in this episode. The screen has never looked so good as when a close-up of Julie is seen. A good story with an interesting plot.

A plot foiled

Warning: Spoilers
THE RIFLEMAN – Nora – 1960

Chuck Connors headlines this 1958 to 1963 western series that ran for 168 episodes. Connors is a world class hand with a Winchester rifle. This of course ends up getting him in no end of trouble.

Julie Adams, an old friend of Chuck Connors arrives in North Fork. It seems that the once wealthy Adams needs some help. Connors of course will do what he can.

Adams though is not the woman Connors knew 15 years before. She is now hooked up with a card sharp, Michael Stefani. Stefani has hit a bad streak of luck and is in deep, $5,000, to fellow card sharp, Murvyn Vye. Vye is a bit too handy with a gun for Stefani and Adams to ignore.

Adams, being a smart lass, has come up with a plan to get out from under the debt. She has invited Vye to town with a promise to pay him off. She has her man, Stefani stay in the background while she plays up to Connors. Connors of course warms up to Adams. Adams then sets up Vye as an unwanted "rival" for her attentions. Adams hopes that Connors and his handy rifle will end her and Stefani's troubles.

Connors does not rise to the bait so Adams uses his rifle and applies some lead to Vye herself. She then blames Connors for the shooting. Connors and Sheriff Paul Fix soon drag the truth out of her and they grab up Stefani for a word. The joke is on Adams as Stefani has just won more than enough to pay Vye his $5,000.

Most will recall Adams from, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.

Rifleman rekindles an old flame

Rich and stunning Nora (Julie Adams) has fallen on hard times. She wants Chuck Connors and son (Johnny Crawford) to be the new men in her life. Looks can be deceiving in more ways than one. Mervyn Vye, noted for playing tough guy roles is owed a lot of greenbacks. Nora's boyfriend, Michael Stefani has got to shakedown the town and some card sharks to break even. Adams plays a great role here and has come a long way from her Hansel and Gretel days in grade school. Paul Fix, the West's favorite Sheriff has his work cut out for him in this one.

Rushed ending - show needed to be longer/two-parter
cpotato10104 September 2019
If I had only seen Julie Adams in this episode, I would not have thought much of her acting.

She started out OK, playing up the relationship she once had with Lucas. But from the time she takes matters into her own hand, and her last scene, it was not great.

Perhaps if this was an hour show, or a two-part story, the writers might have been able to develop the story more, and give us a better ending.

As it is, it looked like they were going for the "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" twist ending. They should leave that to Alfred.

As for Julie, whom we just recently lost at age 92(!), fortunately we have a large variety of TV shows and movies to remember her by, and forget this episode.
