Dick Clark and Mitzi Hoag
kevinolzak4 March 2014
"Star Quality" finds Danny singled out for a rave review from national columnist Sheila Faber (Mitzi Hoag, three more episodes), commenting on his "twinkling eyes, tousled mop, impish grin" (Keith: "boy I wonder what they put in her drink?"). He dreams of solo stardom- breathlessly interviewed by the actual Dick Clark before doing a pint sized impression of Frank Sinatra! Phoning Reuben to tell him he wants to go it alone (strictly for the sake of the family), Danny implores him not to spill the beans until he can find a replacement. Everyone seems to take his leaving in stride, which has Danny feeling very confused, especially since we are given no clue as to what his new act is supposed to be like. The featured song is the excellent "Singing My Song," composed by Wes Farrell and Diane Hilderbrand, previously heard in "Go Directly to Jail." We get one version without lyrics, the second intact, but again an inferior mix to the one heard as the closer from the LP THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY ALBUM.
