I enjoyed this episode more than the last. It deals with what role, if any, God has to play within the lives of the inmates of Oz.

I feel Leon's acting as Jefferson Keane really stepped up a notch in this episode. I didn't mind following his character's journey for a large part of the episode as he struggles with redemption and revenge and the perpetual cycle of violence feeding violence. He is desperate for an escape from the cycle but I have a feeling he will crack soon. The system just won't let him reform & troubles with his new wife Mavis potentially being unfaithful could reignite old habits.

I enjoyed the boot licking scene. Great imagery for poor Tobias and his totally subservient role amongst the white supremacists.

I particularly liked the humour around the cannibal Groves and how he is drawn to Catholicism because of its mystical flesh eating rituals. It really helps to expose the religion for the nonsense that it is. The hypocrisy of the supposedly sane passing judgment on those they find transgressive, while at the same time indulging in bizarre ritual practices that if examined could also be found to be equally aberrant.

Such as Miguel superstitiously believing if he deforms his face it can save his newborn child's liver, Old Testament style.

We also get a great scene about the Napoleon complex governor exerting his authority over the warden and McManus and comparing himself to Zeus, thunderbolts and all. Another reference to God.

I think that the episode did a great job of taking a particular theme, in this case God, and showing that theme through many different lenses while at the same time propelling the narrative forward in terms of the murders and their fallout. This is a really well done and thoughtful show!
