A deserving classic

The brilliance of 'Only Fool's' and John Sullivan as a writer is displayed for all to see in this fabulous episode of the much loved sitcom, in which Del has to provide an act for a cabaret night, and ends up teaming Raquel with an 'interesting' singer to say the least.

Full of lovely moments of interaction between the three leads and with a very funny pay off this is an episode of the show that deserves its reputation of being a classic.

They don't make them like this any more, and part of the reason for that is that sadly we don't have John Sullivan to write them any more.

The one with Tony Angelino. Classic Only Fools moments here and it's undoubtedly the best episode from this series in my opinion. There's no drama between Rodney and Cassandra and the set up is brilliant. It's a joke that's been done before but never quite as well.

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of my absolute favourite episodes of Fools and Horses, for me it is a brilliantly hilarious.

I honestly can't hear regular versions of the song Crying again, without hearing Tony Angelino's version bouncing around in my bonce.

Del fancies himself as an impresario when he discovered that a local nightclub, was open for business and looking for acts.

As far as he is concerned he is living with a star singer so what is there to consider?

After all its all plain sailing, simply money in the bank.

When boasting of his accomplishments he loves to claim that, he is always honest and straightforward with people.

He cannot resist rubbing in the cobblers that he has never let anyone down, and wouldn't dream of it.

One thing to be relied on with Derek Trotter is his deviousness, especially in relation to business, where he thinks only of number one.

For anyone who may say this is going ever so slightly over the top, consider these points from this episode.

How honest was Del with Raquel about any aspect of it?

Was Derek exactly straightforward with Tony about what it meant, to have him as his agent?

Howling and cwying with laughter.

The Trotters are down on their luck, but things appear to be on the up, he knows of a nightclub that are desperate for a singer, he puts Raquel forward, and hunts down the talented Tony Angelino, what could to wrong?

It doesn't matter which version of Crying I hear, I always think of poor Tony.

I'd put this up there in the top three episodes of Only Fools and Horses, it's a joyous piece of comedy, absolutely hilarious, but as John Sullivan always managed, there's a little bit of sadness tied in.

Tony is the provider of the 'big' moment, and it is staggeringly funny, but he's a bit of a sad case too, you can't help but feel sorry for him, Philip Pope played the part to perfection.

When Tony starts to sing, I'm not sure who's face is the funniest, the old lady's, Del's or Raquel's, it's surely one of the best sitcom scenes of all time.

Several lines have been cut out of the regular transmissions, but the official DVD contains all of the original lines.

Comedy perfection.

10/10.
