We have some interesting things going on. Valerie is under threat from a beast that was let out of jail when the main witness recanted in fear. An African man is killed in a white gang initiation where points are divied up. Main story has to do with the parents of the man who murdered Connie's sister wanting to get full custody of the baby.

"Meet the Grandparents"

A very good episode, largely focusing on McDowell and Sipowicz's efforts to adopt her niece.
The paternal grandparents turn up at the last moment and throw a spanner in the works, leading to lots of stress for both detectives. The grandparents have done their homework and know all about Sipowicz and McDowell's personal lives.
There is an amusing scene between Sipowicz and the lieutenant regarding a waiver for detectives to work together. Good stuff.
The case McDowell and Ortiz catch about a waitress being harassed by a frequent diner was very good - some very good twists and turns that I didn't see coming.
Heywood is attacked and we see a darker side of Baldwin. Not unlike, dare I say, a certain Detective Sipowicz when he blows a fuse.
