Poochy joins Minder
Poochie was a character that joins The Itchy & Scratchy Show in the 8th season of The Simpson's in 1997. It was that show's jab at sitcoms adding a character in a desperate attempt to remain a hit show.

Turns out Minder got there first.

Arthur Daley now has competition on the manor from another used car dealer. Worse yet, this competitor has a psycho son who believes in mafia-style tactics to keep his old man's protection racket afloat. This is actually a good plot and in the old days would have been the basis of an excellent episode.

Unfortunately, the B plot has Daley advertising on pirate radio where the hosts are a couple of Ray's hyperactive pals. Let's call them Poochie and Smoochie. Arguably the most obnoxious characters in Minder history. And an obvious desperate attempt by the producers to keep the show relevant to the contemporary audience. This is as far as it gets from the Terry McCann era of Minder, with its post-Labor, street-level London grit.

It's like listening to your old Uncle Phil trying to talk about his favorite trip-hop band.

Jim Hunter as the local plod can't save things, even if he's miles better than the rotund copper and his pony-tailed goober of a partner in the previous episode.

The end is nigh.
