Fires and the fire insurance money
bkoganbing16 March 2015
Marshal Sam McCloud goes undercover to discover a ring of arsonists. He's got personal reasons for this one, an arsonist set fire Diana Muldaur's building and if Dennis Weaver hadn't been around to pick her up for a theater date he might not have discovered the fire and been able to rescue her. As it was a security guard and Muldaur's visiting nephew Skip Lowell might not have been killed.

Fires and the fire insurance money it can bring have often been a way of solving financial problems. Just a year earlier Jack Lemmon torched his factory in Save The Tiger and got an Oscar for it. This of course was from the point of view of the man who needed an arsonist. This is from the innocent people who can be killed there.

Weaver goes undercover both as a rich tycoon who buddies it up with the owner of the building Robert Reed. He also goes undercover as a pinch hit arsonist with Lonn Chapman, king of torches. That nearly gets him killed. I can't believe that the NYPD couldn't afford another guy to play the arsonist at least. I think that's what would have happened in real life.

Still fans of the series will like this.
