THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. – The Secret Sceptre Affair – 1965

This is the 19th episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in black and white with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum plays Illya Kuryakin. Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.

In this one, UNCLE agents Robert Vaughn and David McCallum are sent to a middle-eastern country to stop a coup. They are helping an old friend of Vaughn's, Gene Raymond, stop the government takeover.

The plan is to break into the royal treasury and steal the Holy Sceptre. Whoever has control of the Sceptre will gain the support of all the country's desert tribes. Vaughn, McCallum and Raymond's aide, Ziva Rodann, manage to steal the item. However, agent McCallum is captured by the government Secret Police during the escape.

Vaughn and Rodann meet up with Raymond and arrange for the sceptre to be taken out of the country and delivered to an address in France. Vaughn agrees to this but of course he plans on a side trip. He intends to spring McCallum from the Secret Police types.

Needless to say there are a few red herring thrown at the viewer before Vaughn can complete his task. ( A man killing bear is just one of these distractions) Not great, but by no means is this a bad episode.
