Aunt Martha wants to pay to send Theodore to Fallbrook, all the Bronson boys go there. June tells Beaver this is a big deal, it could change his entire life. Will Beaver dump his friends and Mayfield for Fallbrook prep? June is ready to pack his suitcases. After looking at the catalog, Beaver is ready to go because they have horseback riding, archery, swimming, and on and on. Maybe he can put up with having to wear a jacket and tie every day. Of course, Beaver has to fly there. Aunt Martha calls, and Beaver thanks her for the opportunity, wait until the guys hear.
At school Terry and Whitey tell Beaver he is already accepted on the high school baseball team and will be playing third base. But hey, Beaver will no doubt enjoy being at Fallbrook. Beaver will get his own room and furniture, it will be great. Good luck. Mrs. Rayburn is checking to see how many of Beaver's classmates are going to Mayfield. Everyone except Beaver. It is so great the class will be moving forward together and have four more years together in friendship. Then Donna and Patty want to know why Beaver didn't raise his hand? There were going to try and be in his homeroom because he's such a cute guy. Well, we will miss you Beaver. Wait a second, Fallbrook isn't looking as great.
June is having second thoughts about Beaver being so far away. It's silly to be sentimental, as long as Beaver is happy. Beaver is walking home. There is the tree with his initials. There is Archie the dog waiting for Beaver to pass by to get his daily pat. The old firehouse where he used to talk with Gus. When Beaver gets home both of his parents sense something is off. Wally is rearranging the room to suit his needs. He's already putting Beaver's bed in the basement. Why should he be crowded in when Beaver won't be there. They can put a cot in when Beaver gets home for five or so days for Christmas.
Beaver doesn't want to go. Wally says the only thing to do is talk to dad. Den time. I don't want to go because I'll miss my friends. Beaver has put everyone on the spot. Aunt Martha is flying in and if you don't want to go you have to tell Aunt Martha. Time for Beaver to man up.
Wally and Beaver are upstairs getting dressed, and Beaver is still in high dudgeon sulk. Wally looks great but probably too big to be hugged. Wallace goes look great, like his cousin Wilbur who married the French girl. But Theodore isn't too big to be hugged. Aunt Martha is excited but Theodore needs to talk with her. Theodore tells her he has changed his mind; all his friends will be at Mayfield. But Aunt Martha is unusually accepting and just wants Beaver to go where he will be happy. Better he go with his choice than just try to please a sentimental old Aunt. Did Beaver luck out. What a wonderful Aunt.
Ward want to know what cousin Wilbur did. June looks at him; a Bronson married a French girl, that's enough. Upstairs Beaver is dithering again. Too late. Well, the opportunity was there. When we see the Disney series Still the Beaver, we have to wonder if going to Fallbrook really would have been life changer. The series would have had a different title.
I suspect Beaver would have had a terrible time at Fallbrook. Having taught in a private school, I know what some of the kids would have done to such a gullible mark as Beaver. His life would have been hell. We "know" what he was like as an adult, not too far distant from being the Beaver.
