In this episode, Sam is sent to a neighboring town where the sheriff had died. There is a group taking the law in their own hands, and there seem to be a sort of war among two groups of people developing. Sam wants to make sure he gets to the truth.
Imagining that the west was pretty rough back in the nineteenth century and men really did have to take law in their own hands is a scary thing. Sam's mission turned out okay, but sadly in real life I'm sure just as many good guys died as bad.
This was another episode with his semi-adopted daughter, Tess. She soon drops out of the picture, which is pretty sad. I think her presence added a small amount of sweetness to the show...
