The Yorkshire Sugar Plum Fairy

Warning: Spoilers
Herbert Truelove is forever endeavouring to remind folks of his former glory in the old bill as "Truly of The Yard", and there is nothing he likes more than poking his nose into other people's business. Which is doubtless why he insists on volunteering himself to helping a passing Mavis locate her displaced Lionel, and he enlists Norman and Billy in the task.

Not content with locating lost Lionel's and reuniting them with their Mavis he insists on enrolling Entwhistle as the Sage of Hull to cure his depression, but can the Sage survive the challenge?

Alvin has his work cut out when he sets himself the ultimate challenge of being "The man who tamed Nora Batty" he is obviously determined to be Yorkshire's prize barmpot to risk his life in that hopeless cause.

Truly, Clegg and Billy come across a distraught woman called Mavis whose husband Lionel has gone missing.

Barry and Glenda bump into Lionel as they take a walk in the countryside and he really is depressed. Lionel also asks the two policemen to arrest him but they tell him that would only happen if he assaulted a burglar. They can come down on him like a ton of bricks then.

The trio drop Mavis with the ladies as they go looking for Lionel. Mavis tells the ladies that her husband once went to his mum's who lives in the next street after a tiff and he was away for six years.

When the trio find Lionel they decide to take him to a mystic to cheer him up. It involves Entwistle to pretend to be a sage.

Roy Hudd plays the glum Lionel but I thought Anita Carey who played Mavis outshone him.

I did like Alvin who tries to make Nora Barry smile so he can take a photo of her being happy.

Not fussed on this one.

Cleggy, Truly and Billy encounter a woman parked in her car weeping and waling, she, Mavis has lost her husband Lionel. Only a Sage from The East can sort things.

I thought this was quite a poor episode, it lacked any real laughs, I wasn't a huge fan of the plot, and I didn't particularly think that Roy Hudd worked particularly well either, this series has been pretty good overall, this one was off the pace.

Best of all perhaps, firstly the scene between Alvin and Nora Batty, secondly, the Howard and Marina sketch, they generally steal the show, the main story just isn't funny.

Not great, 5/10.
