Kojak's instincts are unfailing
bkoganbing29 December 2012
Alex Rocco is looking to torch his printing business, but his partner Ben Hammer doesn't want to. Rocco who has need of quick cash quarrels and kills his Hammer and Rocco is hoping that the fire will cover the homicide. The fire brings in fire marshal Richard X. Slattery and the body brings in Kojak and Manhattan South.

Kojak is one trained observer and he suspects foul play and that Hammer did not just die from smoke inhalation or a bookcase falling on him as Rocco stages it.

One thing that does occur in Rocco's plan that is a bonus is that young Erik Estrada who worked there was using the place to meet his married girlfriend who also worked there. He almost takes the fall for it, but Kojak's instincts are unfailing.

Nice episode and Rocco is good as a real slimebag.

Rocco Plays A Guy As Tough-Sounding As His Name
ccthemovieman-12 February 2012
A greedy businessman kills his partner and then sets the office on fire to cover his tracks.

However, the fire leaves some evidence that the victim was killed with a blunt instrument and Kojak slowly puts the pieces together while the schemer/murderer "Morton Tallman" continues to be a nasty dude. Alex Rocco is convincing in his role as "Tallman." He's the kind of guy who really want to see get what's-coming-to-him.

Erik Estrada is featured here as "Luis," one of the big suspects in this case, a guy seeing fleeing the scene. Estrada went on to TV stardom as the co-star on "CHiPs," that aired from 1977 to 1981. He is still acting.
