Knightmares

A back to basics story.

Michael Knight is on the track for a substance called Alidium which is believed to be stolen.

He manages to track the bad guys at an abandoned dam but an explosion leaves him concussed and without Michael Knight's memory. He wakes up in hospital believing to be Michael Long and goes back to work at his police station.

Devon needs to track him down and KITT needs to help this Michael to find his memory by backtracking what happened to him when he was looking for the Alidium.

An intriguing story which breaks up the cosiness that has built up so far. The shot of Michael jumping from a tall building with KITT raising the car seat to catch him was immensely cheesy.

Knightmares

Investigating suspicious events at an abandoned dam, Michael is caught in a grenade explosion and suffers amnesia. Recovering in hospital, he reverts to his previous identity of policeman Michael Long; shocked by the fact that his face has changed and everyone he knew now believes him to be dead, Michael turns to K. I. T. T. to help solve the mystery of his recent case...

Another good episode which highlights what a good actor David Hasselhoff is, as he loses his memory and looks vulnerable enough. He reverts back to being Michael Long, doesn't recognise who he sees in the mirror, and sadly tries to retread his past. But, hey, he's got KITT to help him recover. There's the usual turbo-boosting action but it's the story and emotion that takes centre.

Warning: Spoilers
Any time you find yourself questioning the logic of this show, just remember that premise involves a sentient, crime fighting car. With that said...

There are several go-to tropes baked into 'Knight Rider' with Michael's past and identity, and "Knightmares" pulls the 'ol memory loss card from the deck. Very little of the plot mechanics here make any sense, but please see above for why that really doesn't matter. What matters is if the show is fun, and more often than not, 'Knight Rider' is.

The 'Hoff isn't one of our great thespians, but I sincerely believe that he's the reason this show works. His Michael Knight might just be the most likable protagonist of 80's TV, if not all-time, and Hasselhoff is why. This role would not work as well with any other actor. Period. His chemistry with William Daniels as K. I. T. T. makes the show really zoom. So seeing Michael not knowing who K. I. T. T. is, makes for a fresh spin on their well oiled teamwork.

The 'Hoff digs deep into his dramatic well for his role as the disoriented Michael Long and finds that well is quite dry, but thankfully by episode's end Michael Knight is back and all is well once again.

Michael Long Back?
ShelbyTMItchell4 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
As Michael and KITT are chasing after someone who has lead them to a dam. Michael chases after him and that when the villain of the week has exploded on the dam, Michael is caught and is thrown, that leads him to the hospital.

Afterwards, he is thinking that he is cop Micheal Long. After he escapes and finds out that the house he used to live at is no more. He goes to the precinct he used to work at. Only to find out that he was "dead" for two years.

Meanwhile KITT, Devon, and April manage to track him down. Bringing a reluctant Michael back to realize he is Michael Knight but he refuses to believe. As KITT tags along and tries to get him to retract his steps.

Slowly yet surely he remembers who he is and gets the guy in the process. And yes, finally he gets to take a vacation. Finally outsmarting Devon in the process!

has my vote as "worst acting by a lead ever"
RavenGlamDVDCollector13 January 2021
Maybe somebody told the Hoff "you gotta act like you're really zonked out of your mind" or maybe the Hoff was fervidly trying to dispel the notion that he cannot act... I don't know. But in this episode, the over-acting reaches ridiculous proportions. Wild-eyed face-pulling continues till you wanna throw something at the screen. His acting is so So SO bad bad bad it is laughably sad sad sad and I'm getting mad mad mad (and this corny corny corny joke is the only laugh raised by this episode).

I don't remember him ever being this bad. It's a downslide. It is so bad that The Raven (who only cares about the girls) has to report him. Yee whizz!

Poor Rebecca Holden continues to try her best but just can't be worth Patricia McPherson's used tissues. I'm sorry, Rebecca, there isn't anything wrong with you. You're just where you should never have been.

Sorry about all the negativity. Surprised though that nobody comments on very obvious problems. Besides that permed hair.

Lame part 2
Calicodreamin14 December 2021
Second lame episode in a row, they keep beating the dead horse of "Michael Long". Like it didn't make much sense in the first place and still doesn't make sense now. Just covering up one lame story with another.
