New series and a new broom.

Anna Carteret joins as Inspector Kate Longton who replaces Jean Darblay. Sergeants Beck and Parrish wonder what they have done to deserve another female superior. Longton was in the army and likes to drink apple juice.

Also joining the cast are two new constables, PC Danny Sparks and PC Brian Kelleher.

You never get a sense that Hartley is a multi cultural east Lancashire town. So far asian and black people have hardly featured in Juliet Bravo.

This time a trio over from Blackpool are involved in racial assaults when one of them is told off for skipping the queue at a Post Office.

Also from a headline ripped off from the newspapers of that era. A pensioner refuses to pay his local rates because he wants to know how much of his taxes goes on nuclear weapons. He is visited by the bailiffs.

The pensioner has been daubing graffiti in the town. The police rightly guess it cannot be the local youths as the spelling is correct.

Sergeant Beck upsets the new inspector by following a hunch that leads CID to an important clue as to the racist men's whereabouts.

Surprisingly the racist language is a bit tame here, it was not always like this in shows in the early 1980s.
