JERICHO "Dutch and Go" 1966
This is the first episode of the war series that ran for 16 episodes during 1966 and 1967. The series starred Don Francks, John Leyton and Marino Mase as a team of Allied intelligence officers. The trio is sent to Nazi occupied Europe to sabotage various German projects.
In this episode, the trio are sent to Holland to gather info on a new German anti-aircraft gun. The weapon is hooked up to a secret radar system that the Allies would be interested in getting their hands on. A radar expert, Tom Bosley, is smuggled in to help discover the weapon's secrets.
Bosley is a non-military man who does not understand just how dangerous the mission is. He seems more interested in buying a pair of wooden shoes for his wife back in New Jersey. He soon realizes just how deadly it can be when the mission commander, Don Francks, explains they will all be shot if captured.
The group poses as a repair team for the Dutch dike and windmill repair commission. The Germans have cleverly hidden the radar system in an old windmill. Of course Francks and team sneak radar expert Bosely into the building. A pistol butt to the guard's head and the boys are in. The information is gathered and everyone now hotfoots it back to the escape truck. Bosley and Francks though carelessly get themselves captured. They are tied up and held till the Gestapo can be summoned to question them.
The other team members, Leyton and Mase seek help from the local Dutch underground. Underground leader, John Qualen and his daughter, Susanne Cramer, join in to help in a rescue attempt. Needless to say the rescue is a success and radar man Bosley is soon on his way back to England.
This one is really not what one would call a world beater. The writers must have had a few too many martinis at lunch. The German's are as usual played as bumbling nit-wits. (How on earth did the Germans ever capture anything.) The rescue involves the men being disguised as a big haystack. They then sneak across an open field inside the haystack without the German guards noticing.
The episode runtime is padded out with footage from various MGM war films.
