Nice portrait of Russ Meyer

Warning: Spoilers
This episode of a British TV series on maverick indie cult cinema filmmakers centers on the singular Russ Meyer, who made a name for himself with his jolly fetish for large-breasted women as well as his happily anarchic comic sensibility, extensive use of set-ups, and breathless rapid-fire editing style. Meyer talks about how he started making 8mm movies with a camera that was given to him by his mother, serving in the armed forces during World War II (we see some amazing black and white footage Meyer shot as a combat photographer in the Big One), and how he prefers both aggressive women and shooting in rugged outdoor locations. Moreover, Roger Ebert not only discusses writing "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" with Meyer, but also relates some cool info about the failed picture "Who Killed Bambi?" that was going to star the infamous punk band The Sex Pistols. Meyer starlets Tura Satana and Kitten Natividad also appear to share stories about acting in movies for Meyer. Jonathan Russ makes for an engaging and enthusiastic host. Loaded with choice clips from Meyer's film, it's recommended viewing for Russ Meyer fans.

The Incredibly Strange Film Show (1988) "Russ Meyer"

This British television show was hosted by Jonathan Ross and featured interviews with various "B" movie makers. When viewed today this series is all the more important because so many of the filmmakers are no longer with us.

The notorious and ground-breaking Russ Meyer is the guest for this episode, which has him talking about his movies and what he wants to do as a filmmaker. Once again, this here is a very valuable episode to have today since Russ is no longer with us but we also get interview clips with Roger Ebert, Tura Satana and Malcolm McLaren who is here to talk about the disastrous Sex Pistols movie. If you're a fan of Meyer then you'll certainly enjoy this episode as he tells some great stories about not only his movies but also his thoughts on what his movies are. Ebert always adds in some great information and overall this is a highly entertaining episode.
