Warning: Spoilers
1. One of the reasons that I like this episode is the same as one of the reasons that I liked the previous episode. There was no silliness nor comedy nor slapstick, and especially no Amanda. Her presence would have ruined either of these two episodes. It was another examination of what one immortal can accomplish. As far as Highlander's stories go, it was a rather serious story. We never learn the real name of this messenger nor how old he really was, although my guess is that the real Methos had access to enough information about the Messenger that we could have known more. 2. Here we see a bit of compare and contrast between two immortals. The essentially evil William Culbraith and the passive and non-violent Messenger. Unfortunately the beliefs and lifestyle of the messenger were going to bring about his own death sooner or later because they fly directly in the face of the rules and lifestyle of The Game. Too bad. He was one of the more interesting characters in this tv series. 3. Duncan was unable to provide Culbraith with the death he deserved, and he was not able to interfere once Culbraith started swinging his sword at unarmed Richie, but apparently the rules did allow Duncan to toss a sword in Richie's general direction (that was so great).
