Pretty exciting.

Warning: Spoilers
James Gregory stars as Mike Finney, an ex-criminal who has given up the life of crime and made a success of himself in Hawaii. However, despite keeping his nose clean and being a model citizen, a hot-shot who has his eyes set on becoming the next Attorney General is out to get Finney...whether he's broken the law or not. McGarrett has already investigated Finney and knows he's innocent, but no one seems to be listening and a state senate investigation is going full speed ahead.

To help his case, the hot-shot has done his best to twist and break the law. First, he arranges for a fake assassination attempt on his life. Next, he tries to frame McGarrett for accepting a bribe and ultimately he tries to make it look like McGarrett and Finney have an illegal partnership--with McGarrett getting bribes from Finney. In each case, the trap fails. And yet, the case pushes forward--even against McGarrett's recommendations.

A wild card is thrown in along the way. Suddenly someone thinks that IF Finney talks to the investigating committee, bad things will happen. So, an assassination is sent from the mainland and he means business.

Can the assassination be foiled and can the politically ambitious lawyer be stopped before it's too late? See for yourself.

This is a very good episode--well written, very exciting and with nice acting. Good stuff.

An Episode with a Little Twist
RedbirdCraig6 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this episode about former mainland tough guy turned flower magnate Mike Finnery who's now the target of a zealous political climber has some very interesting plot points. It's fairly well-acted and has a twist or two that makes it different from the usual straight-forward approach of the show.

For one, what you would think is a simple "McGarrett tries to slow down witch hunt" turns a different way when Finnery's former pals decide he's a liability. It's an interesting shift of focus because usually Five-O's plots are pretty linear. I'm not critiquing it, just that's the way it rolled.

One other thing I thought was striking- Senator Osihi gave an impassioned short speech about how he, as a Japanese-American, was treated between WWII and the present day. For a show that didn't often delve into issues like that I thought it was a very well-written little scene.

Great Scenery, boring plot
ptrtxrtyt20 May 2024
You would think a sniper at a hotel swimming pool, shooting at people, would be something that got taken very seriously by McGarrett. But after the weapon is tossed around and no prints are found, it's time for McGarrett to talk to the governor.

But most of the episode is just McGarrett brokering between politicians, lawyers, a senator, and an ex-con. Lots of gripping scenes of...subpoenas being served! Oy!!

A frustratingly slow and tedious episode. Generally, I love every original Hawaii 5-0 episode, but this one just wasn't very enjoyable to watch.

At least they were beautiful scenes of pristine beaches, blue skies, and even an attractive 'palm reader'. For what that's worth.
