Just not funny, with a dumb set-up to the basic plot
FlushingCaps23 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins with Oliver and Lisa sharing some tender moments on waking up one morning. Then they mention their upcoming wedding anniversary, which leads to a dispute as to whether they were married 10 or 11 years ago. Lisa writes to her mother to send her the marriage license, which "Mother" is said to have snatched right after the ceremony.

We move ahead to them receiving it in the mail, and this leads to them discovering, after Lisa translates the Hungarian document into English, that instead of being married, they were each granted licenses to practice dentistry on that day 10 years ago.

So of course, they plan another ceremony and we go through some of the usual bickering, like in other series that had the couple discover they were not legally married (It's happened a few times before and after this episode aired in 1969). I don't think it's a spoiler to report here that they do get married and Oliver carries Lisa over the threshold back into their home, and we see Lisa's wedding present to Oliver-a dental chair.

I had to give this episode a low score. I know things aren't always supposed to be sensible here. But most of the gags were simply not funny. Such as Oliver being surprised that recently-discovered unmarried Lisa insisting they not stay in the same house until they can get legally married. When this happened on other series, the same thing happened and while arguing about it, the guy at least understood why she would insist on this.

I did enjoy Mr. Haney's attempt to get Oliver to hire his "professional flower girl"-a middle-aged (or older) woman to strew flower petals before the bride walks down the aisle.

But the whole premise is just too illogical to make me happy. Two people show up at the mayor's office declaring they want to get married, and they stand together and make promises about loving each other, in sickness... and then the mayor has them fill out a form to become dentists?! Forgetting about the silliness of the Hungarian town's mayor granting dental licenses without seeing proof of them passing a dentistry test, or even asking about the same, how on earth would they be issuing dual dental licenses to two people on the same form? For that matter, it's hard to believe Lisa wouldn't have looked at the form before signing it. Oliver couldn't read it, of course, but Lisa sure could.

Since most versions of how the couple met deal with WW II, I think it weird that they are now saying they never got married (that is, the dental "ceremony in Hungary) until 1959. What took them 14-15 years?

Even overlooking the set-up, this episode simply wasn't nearly as funny as most episodes. I could only give it a 3.
