Luke is fed up with the living arrangement he has with Jess. He decides to go searching for apartments. Lorelai ends up visiting one with him where they pretend to be a couple and it gives the audience a glimpse of what a relationship would be like between them. Luke decides on an apartment but learns that it's owned by Taylor and that's just not going to work. Taylor wants to turn the space beside Luke's diner into an antique plate shop. Luke ends up buying the building and decides to expand his upstairs apartment.

Rory suggests that Lorelai give Jess a chance because they are "friends" so she hires him to clean their gutters. Lor & Jess have a friendly, civil moment while eating lunch but it's interrupted by Rory barging in, panicking that she lost the bracelet that Dean gave her. Jess overhears and realizes that it's the bracelet that fell off Rorys wrist during their Bid A Basket picnic lunch. He sees how much it means to Rory and decides to secretly put in her room for her to find. Lorelai sees him leaving Rorys room and confronts him, feeling suspicious.

Rory tells Jess about losing the bracelet and he suggests she go look around her room again. She ends up finding the bracelet and tells Lorelai that it was in her room all along. Lorelai confronts Jess again, resulting in a heated argument where Jess tells Lorelai that maybe Rory isn't so madly in love with Dean after all.
