Unexpected help approaches gambling establishment owner Dante (Dick Powell) after he was shut down by detective Regis Toomey in the previous episode of the "Dante's Inferno" series of the "Four Star Playhouse". She's Lola Albright, a sultry blonde lady of mystery, and before long, everything seems back to normal. The roulette wheel is soon spinning as Powell utilizes supposedly fired waiter Alan Mowbray to entice customers, and when Powell sets it up for Mowbray to break the bank (and win the club in its entirety), a game of puzzlement ensues.
This is the type of story that will make you ask, "Huh?", and indeed, there are a lot more questions than answers provided as this episode progresses. Mowbray is always a welcome addition to any film or TV show, and his upper class persona mixed with his down-on their luck character is fun to watch come in and take over the scene. He had been Powell's rival in the 1937 musical "Hollywood Hotel" so it's nice to see them both here together on equal footing. There isn't as much a plot here as there is just an excuse to reopen the "Dante's Inferno" segments, but it's enjoyable in spite of that.
