Michelle Phillips, part 2.
stones7813 August 2014
Even though Michelle Phillips probably gets top billing here as a mermaid named Princess Nyah, whom she played in an earlier and a future episode, I feel her segment was the weaker of the two. Normally, Roarke and Tattoo walk down the steps together before meeting the guests, but only Tattoo appears this time, and I was left wondering where Roarke was; it turns out he was walking near the ocean granting Nyah's fantasy, which was to experience human love. A few tidbits worth mentioning had Nyah being rude to the people she crossed paths with, and when an angry Roarke finds this out, he proceeds to bend her over his knee and spank her; that's right, I said spank her! I'm not sure this could fly today as it did in 1980. The ending was predictable, but it wasn't that bad a story. The other story has Tony Chilton(Sam Melville)wanting to meet his deceased father, played solidly by Tom Wopat, who was a World War II flying ace before being killed in combat. Both men had good chemistry together, and even though Tony was warned by Roarke that the past can't be changed, I was still hoping it could be a different outcome. I was almost, ALMOST, moved to tears, but the story ended before tears could come. I also noticed that Tattoo had more to do than in previous episodes, so there's that.
