This one is hard to rate. The main thing I can't help but wonder is how awkward filming this must have been? Perhaps that's why she wrote in the characters "awkward"? Adam was the last of the great supporting cast and now he's gone. We're left with a bunch of rabidly angry and annoying characters (Joe, Paige, Spence & Audrey). Gone is now everything and everyone that made the show great. Why would Ellen have all of them replaced for unfunny actors? Self-sabotage? Did she hate Arye Gross behind the scenes?
It would be a great time now (2021) to interview Arye and ask him what went down behind the scenes and why she fired him. At least, she gave him a send off. Holly and the other girlfriend weren't so lucky. Why would possess Ellen to think the public wanted to see 4 characters acting the same exact part, without variety whatsoever?? Raging anger is not funny, even worse when you get it from all corners.
I didn't laugh once here, it was just sad. This is the 2nd episode where I didn't laugh once. It's all downhill from here, folks! With one exception: the mock trial episode, which actually might be the funniest in the entire series. Other than that, it's the binge-watch towards the downfall of a formerly great sitcom which happens in S4. The 2nd part of S4 & S5 are just unwatchable. I'm sure they rank as least watched in syndication. And so it goes and history repeats itself in 2021 for Ellen, so it's a great time to rewatch this sitcom, see how it all went down and why she's so prone to self-sabotage. 6 stars, for only Adam. He was a great character and we all missed Arye's funny man comedy here. Imagine if the entire first cast had lasted till the end and no audience betrayal with the main character flip-flopping on us all: Oh, what could have been!? Easily 8-10 seasons...
